The Birds QuadA remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic The Birds, has been long talked about. We have heard all sorts of rumblings, but nothing has really been set in stone. But then, that brings us to today. It’s official. A remake of The Birds is on the way and Platinum Dunes have announced who will bring the remake to the screen.

According to Variety, Platinum Dunes, Mandalay Pictures and Universal have tapped Dutch filmmaker Diederik Van Rooijen to direct the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.

The original plotline followed a San Francisco socialite who moves to a small northern California town that is suddenly under attack from various types of birds.

At this time it is still early days, so plot details for the remake are still under lock and key, but as soon as we hear of them we shall share them with you.

So, who’s up for this remake?

To make a remake good, you need the original location and surviving stars. The survivors can have a yearly memorial . Use the movie scenes as flashbacks.

Hitchcock’s The birds could have triggered a serious agoraphobia to anyone. New horror movies can’t do that

Alfred Hitchcock is the greatest filmmaker who ever lived, and his version of Daphne Du Maurier’s THE BIRDS is perfect. None of that will change when this remake is released, whether the new version is good or bad.

Finally! I have been waiting for a remake. I am such a huge fan of the original and I love it when people make remakes. People who hate on this should just relax. Remakes are made for a younger generation to appreciate the story of the original. So they can experience the same feeling of fright as people who grew up watching the originals. I love both originals and remake. If I even feel like the remake isn’t worthy, I will just stick to the original then. No big deal.

Why?! Seriously, the road to ruin is in remakes of great, classic movies. The majority of the generations that will see the remake won’t know the horror of seeing the original, will consider it not exciting enough, or doesn’t have enough special effects, etc. They will never learn that 95% of the horror is actually what’s going on in their heads while watching this wonderful film…. I can’t understand why people want to be spoon-fed everything instead of relying on their brains for the unfolding of terror….

A sequel was made on Showtime back in the mid 90’s. The Birds 2: Land’s End. It was expectedly dreadful, actually. Just like discovering bird poop on the hood of your car.

Agree with Eric, the horror we knew is completely different to the horror today, no computer graphics then. At least give the remakes a chance.
