[Book Review] Simon & Kirby Library: Horror!

[Book Review] Simon & Kirby Library: Horror!Unfortunately when it comes to comics I’m pretty clueless. I’ve just never veered towards that direction, but upon reading Titan Books’ latest release the Simon & Kirby Library: Horror!, it has come to my attention that I have some freakin’ catching up to do!

Upon inspection, this may just be the most gorgeous book Titan Books have ever assembled. It’s not only filled to the brim with classic tales, it’s very well put together collection.

Vibrant and colorful and it quickly grabs your attention from the get go, but if I were you I’d schedule yourself some time to get through this one as I found I couldn’t put it down and just continued reading. Before I knew it, hours had past and it was late into the night.

As I’m sure many of you know, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby jumped into the world of horror in the early 1950′s with Black Magic and well, the rest is history, and this collection compiles some of their greatest work spanning just over fifty stories in total, which makes this a must for any fan of Simon & Kirby. But also, someone like myself who is somewhat a virgin to this territory.

Stories include all kinds of subjects ranging from the supernatural, werewolves, demons and all sorts of strange and peculiar things. Some stories remind me of Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, perhaps he was even inspired by some of the works that Simon and Kirby did. Either way, it was a refreshing and somewhat nostalgic surprise.

In any event, I urge you to check this one out as it is as in-depth as anything I have ever read and quite possibly the most beautiful book Titan Books have ever released. Just get ready for those nightmares! Look for this one in your nearest bookstore now.
