New Information on Insidious 3

Jason McDonald

Given the financial success and mostly positive critical praise, it was no surprise that Sony Pictures would move forward with a third chapter in the “Insidious” series. However, with series director James Wan moving on to other genres, I have to wonder what sort of film “Insidious 3” will be.

The folks over at Screen Rant caught up with series writer Leigh Whannell at SXSW where he’s premiering his newest film “The Mule.”  While chatting with him, the conversation turned towards the next “Insidious” film and they were able to pry a few details from him.  To check out the full interview, watch the video below.

The biggest reveal is that the next film will no longer be about the Lambert family.  Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne won’t be returning for the sequel so it looks like the film will move on to a new family with new problems.  A decision that is probably for the best.  Realistically, how many times can you see the same family placed in a similar jeopardy? I thought “Insidious Chapter 2” presented a fresh twist to the story, but their journey seemed to be fairly wrapped up by the end of the movie.

So who will be the new family? Naturally, you might assume that the family featured at the very end of the film might become the new protagonists, but Leigh says that the new film won’t be connected to the final scene.

All this new information begs the question: will anyone return? Yes, there will be two characters definitely returning. Leigh and Angus Sampson will be returning to reprise their roles as Specs and Tucker.  Check out the video below for more details.  “Insidious 3” will hit theaters on April 3, 2015.

The 3rd film definitely needs to answer questions about the final scene of the 2nd film. Otherwise, I’ll be pissed. I hate when they do shit like that. Tie up your loose ends, people!
