Outlast DLC ‘Whistleblower’ Arrives Next Month

If you’ve been waiting to dive back into the world of “Outlast” with their first DLC expansion, then you probably know that it’s been a scary-long wait.  ”Whistleblower”, the upcoming DLC expansion, was first announced way back around Halloween of last year.  And while I initially hoped we would be seeing it sooner rather than later, it became apparent that our reprieve from the insanity would be an extended one.

However, after missing the initial release date of April, it would appear that a definitive arrival is within sight.  According to developer Red Barrels, the DLC is expected to arrive on PCs and American PS4′s on May 6th with European PS4 owners getting their DLC on May 7th.

The upcoming DLC pack will act both as a prequel and sequel that’ll bookend the story that was started in “Outlast.” Here’s how Red Barrels describes the game:

Whistleblower will let you play as Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract with Murkoff and the man who emailed journalists around the world – including Miles – at the beginning of Outlast. Spending a couple of weeks at Mount Massive, during which he was unable to even talk to his wife and son in Boulder thanks to strict security protocols, Waylon developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients. Identifying with those poor souls fueled Waylon’s anger, and set the stage for his unmasking of Mount Massive’s rotten core.

Although Whistleblower tells the story that led to Outlast, it will actually stretch past the events of the first game to show the final chapter in Mount Massive Asylum’s story.

So far, there’s no word on how much the DLC will cost.
