‘Alien’ Artist H.R. Giger Passes at 74

I still can’t believe it, and it never gets any easier when reporting on someone’s death especially when they have contributed so much to the genre that we all know and love. So, unfortunately I bring you the news that the iconic artist, H.R. Giger has sadly passed away at the age of 74.

According to the BBC News, Giger passed away in hospital on Monday, after he fell down some stairs in his home in Zurich.

H.R. Giger has inspired so many, but I think many will always remember him for his awesome work on Ridley Scott’s Alien, with his creation of the Xenomorph, which has become something of an icon in itself.

As well as working on the Alien films, Giger also had a hand in the 1995 flick Species, and his work can also be seen across many video games and even a few covers for various musical artists.

Most recently however, Giger appeared in the documentary about Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unmade film of the book Dune.

H.R. Giger was born on February 5, 1940 in Chur, Switzerland and sadly passed May 12, 2014. He will sorely be missed and all of us here at HM.ca, send our condolences to his friends, family and of course you, the fans that have shared your love of his awesome work throughout the years.

Below you can find a little tribute video which showcases some of his work.
