NBC Takes ‘Devil’s Advocate’ to Series

Jason McDonald

Remember the 1997 Keanu Reeves where he played a lawyer working for Al Pacino who was literally the Devil? Well, guess what?  It’s being turned into a television series by NBC.  Add that to the list of things I never saw coming.

Deadline has learned that NBC is pursuing a pilot from Warner Bros. TV for a potential series based on “Devil’s Advocate.”  Matt Venne (“Bag of Bones”) is writing the series which follows a public defendant who goes to work for a large law firm that is run by the Devil.

As a television series this is a unique concept because it allows you to have that episodic courtroom drama formula, but then you can occasionally spice things up with some supernatural Devil work.  I think there’s potential there.  I don’t see it being a long running series, but it could pull together an intriguing story over a couple of seasons.

Production is in the early stages right now, so it’ll be some time before we hear about any sort of casting.  In the meantime, is there anyone you’d like to see take over the roles once held by Keanu and Pacino?
