Exclusive: Bianca Allaine Talks Zombinatrix & More

Zombinatrix PosterEarlier this month we received word in regards to Michael Kyne and Bianca Allaine’s first feature project Zombinatrix, a film that simply screams awesome, straight from the title. So, I just had to learn more, and graciously Bianca agreed to answer a few questions about the film which you can view below. If you’re a fan of Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker, you will love this!

[Horror-Movies.ca] – What led you and your husband Michael Kyne to make Zombinatrix?

[Bianca Allaine] – Michael and I have enjoyed working together on other people’s projects for about five years, but recently we realized that we wanted to try creating our own projects. In 2012, we started a weekly web series called Watch These Films with Bianca Barnett (my stage name at that time) which became really popular, despite it being just a quick way to produce fun content. In 2013, we created the short film, Web of Deceit, which originally was an entry into the ABCs of Death contest. It placed 20th out of 541 entries worldwide, played in 16 film festivals, won third place in the Yellow Ape Festival, and is set to be featured in two horror anthologies. We felt really encouraged by the positive feedback and that led us to create our first feature, Zombinatrix.

[Horror-Movies.ca] – I’m assuming the film will be set in the 80s?

[Bianca Allaine] – Actually, while it will be an homage to the glorious horror films of the 1980s, it will not be set in any specific time. That being said, the film will have a stylized, gritty “New York” aesthetic which so many wonderful horror films had in the 1980s.

[Horror-Movies.ca] – What can you tell us about the film?

[Bianca Allaine] – Zombinatrix is a blend of horror and comedy, a combination that I have always loved. The film centers around Mistress Tawny, who becomes Zombinatrix, and seeks vengeance on her killer. That’s all I can say for now!

[Horror-Movies.ca] – What was the inspiration behind Zombinatrix?

[Bianca Allaine] – Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker is a huge influence! Michael and I are also huge fans of David Lynch, John Waters and Alejandro Jodorowsky. Also, the amazing visuals of films like Street Trash and Return of the Living Dead. We want the finished project to be visually stimulating for the viewer.

[Horror-Movies.ca] – I noticed you have the awesome Hollywood visual FX artist and animator, Webster Colcord on-board, will the film use mostly practical effects?

[Bianca Allaine] – Webster Colcord is absolutely amazing! We feel so lucky to have him as part of our team. He has been nothing but supportive and helpful in the process. Yes, almost all of the FX in the film will be practical, which is very exciting!

[Horror-Movies.ca] – Who came up with the tagline, She’s into whips and brains? I think it’s awesome!

[Bianca Allaine] – Thank you! I actually came up with the tagline!

[Horror-Movies.ca] – Which horror films have left an impact on you and which have inspired your work?

[Bianca Allaine] – Where do I begin?? Well, I feel really fortunate to have grown up in the 1980s and to have had the experience of being a kid perusing the video stores. It was such a golden age of horror! Some of my favorite, and influential, films include The Lost Boys, Return of the Living Dead, An American Werewolf in London, Thriller, Friday the 13th series, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Evil Dead… how much time do you have? 😉

[Horror-Movies.ca] – Thank you Bianca, it’s an absolute pleasure, is there anything you would like to add?

[Bianca Allaine] – Thank you so much for the opportunity! I hope your readers will head over to Zombinatrix.com and www.facebook.com/zombinatrix so they can get the latest scoop! We have an open casting call going on right now and we also have some crew positions to fill for anyone interested.
