Jordan Peele to Write and Direct Horror Film ‘Get Out’

Jason McDonald

Jordan Peele might be best known for his comedic on Comedy Central’s “Key and Peele”, but the writer/director/actor is looking to take his career in a new direction by tackling his other great love: horror.

According to The Wrap Jordan Peele is teaming up with Blumhouse productions to write and direct a new horror thriller called “Get Out.” The film is expected to center on race issues as the film is about a young black man visiting his white girlfriend’s family estate.  It sounds like “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” with a horror twist.  Here’s what Peele had to say about the project:

“People know me for my work in comedy, but now I’ll get to focus on my passion for writing and directing horror films. Like comedy, horror has an ability to provoke thought and further the conversation on real social issues in a very powerful way. ‘Get Out’ takes on the task of exploring race in America, something that hasn’t really been done within the genre since ‘Night of the Living Dead’ 47 years ago. It’s long overdue,

Personally I’m excited to see Jordan Peele break out and do something a little darker and more serious. “Key and Peele” has been pretty damn entertaining for the last few years, so I’m all for him applying that same amount of talent to horror.

Except that NOTLD was NOT a study on race relations. Even Romero admits this. He was trying to make an “I Am Legend” for the silver screen, only going further back in the storyline. He hired Duane Jones because he gave the best audition.
I think people want to believe it because it COULD play as a “race” study…if only it were intended that way.
