Michael Biehn Reveals that Newt Would Return in Blomkamp’s Alien Sequel

For now it seems as if Neill Blomkamp’s “Alien” dream project is on indefinite hold until after Ridley Scott’s newly christened “Alien” film is out.  At this point it’s uncertain how long we’ll have to wait until we can see Blomkamp’s vision on the big screen, but in the meantime, some new details have emerged about who would be involved in that vision.

When Blomkamp started to reveal concept art for his “Alien” film he showcased art that revealed that Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Hicks would be alive and semi-well in his film.  It seemed to be an indication that everything after “Aliens” would be ignored in favor of a new timeline where Hicks was still alive.  However, Hicks wasn’t the only character to be unceremoniously killed off in “Alien 3.”

In an interview with Icons of Fright Michael Biehn revealed that Blomkamp’s “Alien” film would feature the return of a much older Newt.

I think when they put that out there and have pictures with me as Hicks again, people were excited and though I’m not into online stuff much, my kids saw a lot about it on Reddit. They were excited. They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt.

It seems like Blomkamp wanted to give the “Aliens” crew one last proper hurrah before officially retiring them.  Having Newt be the one to replace Ripley seems like a fan friendly way to continue the series without treading on the previous films.

However, whether or not we’ll get to see that passing of the torch remains to be seen.  Right now franchise is in Ridley Scott’s hands and I have to imagine that if his next film bombs, it might delay any further “Alien” films.  But, given that Ridley Scott is still having tremendous success with space related films, I don’t think that’ll come to pass.
