‘Orphanage’ Director J.A. Bayona Rumored to Be in Lead for ‘Jurassic World 2’ Job

Ever since “The Orphanage” released in 2007 I’ve been waiting for director J.A. Bayona to break out in the states, but now it seems like his big chance might come with a major blockbuster.

Deadline is reporting that J.A. Bayona is currently a frontrunner for the daunting task of sitting in the director’s chair for “Jurassic World 2.”  After “Jurassic World” shattered box office records director Colin Trevorrow vacated the director’s chair for the next “Star Wars” film.  However, before diving into the world of “Star Wars”, Trevorrow did pen the sequel script along with Derek Connolly.  Now that it appears the script is done the search for a director will be intensifying as the sequel is expected to release in 2018.

The timing would work out perfectly for J.A. Bayona who recently dropped out of the “World War Z” sequel in order to finish up work on his current project “A Monster Calls.”  So after he’s finished working on that feature, he should be free just in time to start work on “Jurassic World 2.”  Another bit of evidence that lends support to this rumor is that Bayona is said to already have established relationships with the producers and people involved in the production of “Jurassic World” and it never hurts to know the right people.

As Deadline points out nothing is official and no offers have been made to anyone, but I suspect that we should probably hear something concrete in the near future.
