Abbey Lee Joins ‘The Dark Tower’ as Tirana

I must admit, my knowledge about “The Dark Tower” universe is slim to none, but judging by reactions to this news it seems like fans are really perplexed by this casting.

According to Deadline actress Abbey Lee, who was featured in “Mad Max: Fury Road”, has signed on for Nikolaj Arcel’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower.”  Now, the real confusing part is that her role is being billed as a female lead even though her character doesn’t appear in the books until the 7th volume in a minor role.

Abbey will play a character named Tirana who is described as being “sexy and dangerous” while having “fake human skin and cold snake-like eyes.” This seems to describe a set of characters known as the Low Men.  So it seems like they might be taking some creative license with this adaptation, which is par for the course when it comes to Stephen King adaptations.  However, how this change will be justified remains to be seen.

Abbey will join Idris Elba, who is playing Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey who is set to play series antagonist the Man in Black. Stay tuned as this wild ride continues to build momentum.

Why would they do this? I still can’t believe.
