The continuing saga of will “Pacific Rim” get a sequel or not has just received a big push into the “it’ll probably get a sequel” category. Legendary has announced that a new director is stepping in to take over the sequel.
According to Deadline Steven S. DeKnight will be taking over for Guillermo del Toro and directing “Pacific Rim 2.” This is a big move for DeKnight as it’ll be his first feature film. Previously DeKnight created the hit Starz series “Spartacus” before serving as producer and head writer on Netflix’s “Daredevil” series. However, DeKnight has had experiencing directing as he directed several episodes of “Angel”, “Daredevil”, and “Smallville.” Still, going from street level heroes to kaijus is quite the leap.
The current script that they’re working on is from Jon Spaihts who previously wrote “Prometheus” and “The Darkest Hour.” But what of the man who shepherded this project? It looks like del Toro will be serving as producer, but given his slate of potential projects it’s hard to say how much involvement he’ll have in it.
What do you think? Excited for another “Pacific Rim” even if Guillermo del Toro is no longer at the helm? Let us know down below.
