‘Attack of the Cyber Octopuses’ Goes Old School

Chris Savage

Over the past few years old school has become the new school as many filmmakers have embraced the look, feel and techniques used in the eighties and earlier. Just look at David Sandberg’s Kung Fury, and how he managed to encapsulate the eighties in his awesome short, or the stellar Australian TV series Danger 5, from Dario Russo and David Ashby, with all the miniatures and puppetry and just pure awesomeness. If you haven’t, check them out.

So, today brings us to something new, but something that uses techniques to try to give us the look and feel of an eighties sci-fi classic, and that is Nicola Piovesan’s short film, Attack of the Cyber Octopuses, and you can certainly see their love of Blade Runner, Terminator, Aliens etc in this one. It looks outstanding, and we can’t wait to see more. But, with many independent projects, they need a little helping hand.

So, if you guys would like to be a part of this one and score some killer perks as well, make your way over to their Kickstarter page and see how you can help. In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer and poster artwork below.

SynopsisThe story takes place in Neo-Berlin, 2079. A dark, rain-soaked city held by mega corporations where the only enjoyment in life is connecting to cyberspace and taking “Binary Trip” a cyber drug that fries your neurons but promises a feeling better than a hundred orgasms at once. In this setting, a team of crack cyberspace detectives are investigating a new menace: an army of cyber octopuses that are terrorizing the city.
