It has been so very long since I last witnessed Stephen Carpenter and Jeffrey Obrow’s The Kindred, mainly due to the fact the film has never been legally released on DVD or Blu-ray. However, about ten years ago Synapse Films had purchased the film, but soon they became entangled in a legal battle and the film laid in limbo just vying to be released on DVD.
Today, though, Entertainment Weekly brings some truly awesome news in that Synapse Films will finally be unleashing The Kindred onto DVD and Blu-ray, and they expect it to be available in 2018. And it gets better, Synapse Films’ version will have more gore than the original U.S. release as they have managed to uncover new material and they also hope to bring even more extras onto the upcoming release.
Synapse Films President Donald May Jr. told EW the following regarding the situation;
Almost ten years later, I can now say that, yes, we are doing The Kindred, finally, for 2018. While we didn’t spend four years restoring it, it took us ten years to get out of all the legal mess to finally announce it again, ten years later. I could probably write a book as to what happened with The Kindred. [Laughs] We’ll do The Kindred on Blu-ray and DVD, because honestly it’s never been legally available on Blu-ray or DVD in the U.S. So, we’ll be the first company to actually release it.
At this time we have no further details, but be sure to follow their official Facebook page for more.
