Axeman II: Overkill [Review]

Chris Savage

Just when you thought it was safe to return to Cutter’s Creek, the Axeman launches a freakin’ axe into your face! And there, the Axeman is back in full swing. From Joston Theney comes his sequel, Axeman II: Overkill and it’s bigger, badder and bloodier than the original, so buckle-up!

The film sees the return of Deputy Darlene Whitfield, now played by Arielle Brachfeld, as she responds to a call where she finds herself at the scene of a massacre, and while the town of Cutters Creek believes the Axeman is just a legend, Deputy Whitfield knows all too well and sadly for the many, they are about to find out the hard way.

And as such, a group of Christian Evangelicals looking for a retreat away at Cutter’s Creek soon find themselves in the middle of a battlefield as a bunch of bankrobbers get involved in the mix while Deputy Whitfield is rounding up a posse to take out the Axeman once and for all, but things don’t quite go to plan and bodies begin piling up.

The sequel, is definitely in your face in terms of the gore. The Axeman, played by Bryan Clark, is a hulking beast and suits the role perfectly as he hacks his way through a slew of victims in some truly fun and gruesome ways. And while the gore and violence and even some of the comedic aspects are fun, the story seems a little confused and convoluted, especially with all these third parties getting involved, and it’s almost like a giant haze.

However, while some of the characters may not work as well, it is so satisfying to see them maimed and brutalized in such gory fashion at the hands of the Axeman, that I’m sure it will keep you entertained until the credits roll.

It’s definitely a fun, campy flick that doesn’t take itself seriously and it will have you cheering every time you see the Axeman appear on-screen. So, if you’re looking for a fun, bloody slasher flick this Halloween, look for Axeman II: Overkill this October 17, 2017.
