Well, looks like we have our first contender for indie darling we’ll soon be swooning over. Followed by numerous articles asking “was this film overrated?” As is tradition with horror films that strike up early buzz at festivals.
A24 is back at it again with another exciting new horror feature. “Hereditary” stoked a lot of interest at this years Sundance and most of the news coming out of the festival were singing the praises of this one. “Hereditary” is directed by Ari Aster and stars Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, and Milly Shapiro. Here’s how A24 describes it . . .
When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.
“Hereditary” will hit theaters on June 8, 2018.
