In the lead up to the release of last year’s “Dark Tower” movie it was announced that there would be a TV series that would help expand on the mythos of the film. After the rocky reception that the “Dark Tower” movie got, it seemed like that the future of that series was up in the air. However, sense then Stephen King has continued to talk about the series like it was a thing that was going to happen, but the details about how and where it would show up continued to be up in the air.
This is kind of a weird news story as the details are super sparse and seemed to be revealed unceremoniously. In an article on Deadline about an upcoming adaptation of “Consider Phlebas” Deadline gets to talking about Amazon’s current and future plans for adapting books into series for their Prime service and about seven paragraphs in they drop this tidbit:
As part of the effort, Amazon made a mega deal for a Lord Of the Rings TV series and is developing a slew of high-profile titles, including The Dark Tower,Wheel of Time, Ringworld, Lazarus and Snow Crash.
It’s a blink and you’ll miss it style mention, but they just totally reveal that Amazon is now working on that “Dark Tower” series. They mention it in such a way that it seems like something we should’ve already known, but I looked all over and I’m 100% certain this is the first time we’re learning about this. So there you have it, it looks there’s still life in a “Dark Tower” series and Amazon is exploring the options for it. So hopefully we’ll hear more about it in the near future. Starting with an official confirmation would be nice.
