‘Get Out’ Wins Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars

Jason McDonald

The Oscars are still going down, but the big awards are starting to roll out.  The horror genre has two horses in the race and one of them just scored a big win.

Writer, director, and actor Jordan Peele just won “Best Original Screenplay” for his 2017 horror hit “Get Out.”  Peele managed to win over such stiff competition as “The Big Sick”, “Lady Bird”, “The Shape of Water”, and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”  Honestly, while I was rooting for “Get Out” and “The Shape of Water” I was doubtful either would win over such strong candidates.  This is a huge win for the horror genre and a tremendous moment for Jordan Peele who won his first big nomination.

Now we just have to wait and see who will win for Best Director and Best Movie.
