What an exciting night for the genre! First we get a win in Best Original Screenplay and now horror has taken home Best Director.

Director Guillermo Del Toro has just won his first Oscar for “The Shape of Water.”  Tonight Del Toro is taking home the “Best Director” award. The last time a Guillermo Del Toro film was up for an Oscar was in 2007 for “Pan’s Labyrinth.”

A tearful and greatful Del Toro accepted the Oscar tonight.  It remains to be seen if it’ll be the last time he takes the stage tonight as he’s also in the running for Best Picture.
