There’s a New ‘Leprechaun’ Movie Coming from the Director of ‘The Void’- Check out the Teaser Within

Jason McDonald

St. Patrick’s day is behind us and if you were going to announce a new “Leprechaun” movie, then you really couldn’t pick a better time.  Despite the best efforts of “Leprechaun: Origins” to kill the franchise off, it looks like SyFy is having another go at it.  However, before you freak out, this adaptation looks to be a bit more faithful to the original films and even has some solid talent attached to it.

SyFy has revealed that the Leprechaun will be returning in the aptly titled “Leprechaun Returns.”  The film is aiming for a March 2019 release and will be directed by Steven Kostanski who recently directed “The Void” and will be written Suzanne Keilly who has written for “Ash Vs Evil Dead.”  To me, that sounds like a fantastic combination.  Someone with a practical sense like Kostanski working with someone who has a grasp of comedic horror like Keilly should be an excellent pairing for a Leprechaun film.

As for the story of “Returns” this is another interesting twist.  The film will actually be a sequel to the first “Leprechaun” movie.  I know, shocking they’re ignoring the continuity of “Leprechaun in the Hood” and the even more important “Leprechaun in Space.” Here’s how SyFy describes the film:

Leprechaun Returns finds the leprechaun revived in the modern day when a group of sorority girls unwittingly awaken him while tearing down a cabin to build a new sorority house.

Pretty straight forward.  But how will this one connect to the original film?  Well, Mark Holton will be returning to reprise the role of Ozzie from the first film.  No word on how or why he’ll be in the new film yet.  However, the one actor that most people want to see return won’t be back for this sequel.  Warwick Davis won’t be stepping back into the role of the Leprechaun. Instead it’ll be Linden Porco taking on the role. Now, before you freak out, I suggest checking out the teaser trailer they put out before. I got to say, Linden sounds pretty damn good in the role.   According to SyFy “Taylor Spreitler (Kevin Can Wait) as Lila, Pepi Sonuga (Ash vs Evil Dead) as Katie, and Sai Bennett (Lake Placid: Legacy) as Rose” will also be in the movie. Check out the teaser down below and let us know what you think.
