‘The First Purge’ Begins with this Official Trailer

Jason McDonald

I’ll be honest, while I’ve been interested in what “The First Purge” will turn out to be, I wasn’t really paying attention to the casting. So imagine my surprise when I saw Y’lan Noel from “Insecure” pop up in a seemingly prominent role in the trailer below.  My interest in this movie just clicked up a few notches.

“The First Purge” is being directed by Gerard McMurray (“The Burning Sands”) and this marks the first time someone other than James DeMonaco has directed a “Purge” film so it’ll be interesting to see if this one has its own flavor or if it tries to mimic what DeMonaco has done before.  While not directing, DeMonaco is still handling the writing and is serving as a producer so he is still very much tied to the franchise.

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.  “The First Purge” will hit theaters on July 4, 2018.
