Here’s The Official Synopsis for Shane Black’s ‘The Predator’

As CinemaCon chugs on, we’ve gotten some more news about an upcoming release.  Today featured the grand reveal of ‘The Predator” trailer and the release of an official synopsis.  Sadly, we don’t have the trailer yet, but we at least have the synopsis to give us something to think about.

For a while it was unclear whether or not Shane Black’s upcoming “Predator” film would actually be a sequel or a reboot.  Well, based on what they revealed today, it sounds like “The Predator” will indeed be a sequel to the original films.  According to IndieWire “The Predator” will be set in between “Predator 2” and the 2010 “Predators” movie.   Which makes sense as it was previously reported that Jake Busey would be playing the son of Gary Busey’s character from “Predator 2.”

As for what the film will be about, here’s what Fox had to say:

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

The bit about the Predators genetically upgrading themselves with DNA is what I find most perplexing.  Will we have another PredAlien on our hands?  Will this be like those Alien toys where they mixed them with all sorts of animals?  I’m eager to see how this concept will take form, it’s the kind of thing that could easily turn out to be overly cheesy.

“The Predator” is being directed by Shane Black from a script he co-wrote with Fred Dekker.  Along with the previously mentioned Jake Busey, the film will star Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Jake Tremblay, Alfie Allen, Edward James Olmos, Yvonne Strahovski, and Thomas Jane.  “The Predator” will hit theaters on September 14, 2018.
