‘Castle Rock’ and ‘The Purge’ to Have Activations at San Diego Comic Con

Jason McDonald

Next week is the big week for San Diego and just about every studio and entertainment organization is prepping to bring their best promotional events to pimp out their properties.  These set-ups, often called “activations”, are typically placed all around the convention center and the nice thing about them is that they don’t always require you to have a comic con badge, so if you happen to be in the area and want to experience some interactive marketing you totally can.

As Comic Con is host to a variety of pop culture goodness, you can be sure there’s an activation for just about every fandom. From Hello Kitty trucks handing out bake goods to Jack Ryan training simulators. For horror fans there are a handful of announced activations that might get your attention.

Along with returning properties like “The Walking Dead” and “Mr. Mercedes” this year will see the arrival of “The Purge” series and “Castle Rock.”  Here’s how the activations will work according to the Hollywood Reporter:

The Purge’s Purge City store – The immersive experience transports shoppers into the world of USA Network’s The Purge with a tongue-in-cheek, one-stop shop for the perfect Purge Night, where “Purge City” staff will help visitors stock up on emergency candles, masks and energy drinks. Shoppers can also take part in product demos, photo ops and get a glimpse of the TV series based on the Jason Blum feature of the same name. Free. 215 Tony Gwynn Drive, Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Castle Rock activation – Tour the town of Castle Rock’s bed and breakfast and explore its vast forest, with surprises around every corner. Visitors will question what’s real and begin to understand why Castle Rock is called the unluckiest town on Earth as they journey through the multi-room experience. A Hulu campsite lounge will also serve as a refuge from the chaos of Comic-Con while offering a preview of the Hulu series. Intersection of Front Street and Island Avenue, Thursday-Sunday.

Some of these events will have pre-registration period where you can sign up early for them.  So keep your eyes open for any announcements.   In the meantime, stay tuned for more Comic Con news.
