MGM Fast-tracks the ‘Child’s Play’ Remake

With word of Don Mancini’s working on the Child’s Play television series, it appears as MGM has upped the ante on their remake of the film as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the studio is fast-tracking the remake with Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) attached to direct.

Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury 2) penned the script and filming is set to take place this September in Vancouver.

It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are also attached to the project.

Also, our friends over at Collider has some details, although MGM hasn’t confirmed any of the following;

It’s a contemporary reboot involving a group of kids (a la Stranger Things), and a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world.

So, there’s the possibility that it could feature a technologically-advanced doll. And at this time, all I can imagine is one of those Funzo dolls from The Simpsons, which could be fun in its own right.

For whatever reason if you’ve never seen the original film, here’s a little rundown of what happens;

“A popular toy doll named Chucky that becomes possessed and terrorizes a single mom and her son, as the killer needs the son’s body to jump into before his transference to the doll becomes permanent.”

But what about you? Did the last film, Cult of Chucky leave you wanting more? Let us know what you think about the upcoming remake and what you would hope to see?
