I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know a whole lot about “Castle Rock” before hand and I hadn’t been keeping up with its development too closely, but the official trailer they released today may have just completely sold me on it.
We’ve been on a real Stephen King adaptation bender lately and some of the attempts have been amazing while others have been exceedingly less so (looking at you “Dark Tower.”) The next property to enter the adaption fray is Stephen King’s “Castle Rock” which is set to premiere on Hulu on July 25th. Now, what’s most interesting about this project is that it’s not an actual adaptation of any particular book. Instead its an original story that focuses on a fictional place that has been featured in many of Stephen King’s works like “Cujo”, “It”, “Shawshank Redemption”, and “Needful Things.” Here’s how Hulu describes the series:
A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
The series came to be thanks to a partnership between Stephen King and J.J. Abrams. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
