So the first “Goosebumps” movie wasn’t the best thing they could’ve done with the “Goosebumps” property, but it was still a fun and charming movie mostly held up by Jack Black’s performance as R.L. Stine. So when they announced a sequel to it, I was willing to see what else they could do with Stine’s character. And then the weirdness started.
After the announcement of the sequel it started to get strangely unclear whether or not Jack Black would reprise the role of R.L. Stine for part two. There were some rumors that the writer of the sequel was not a fan of Jack Black’s portrayal and didn’t want the character to be back. Then when Sony revealed that Slappy would be back for “Goosebumps 2” he noticeably didn’t have Jack Black’s voice anymore. However, some reporters have said that Sony later reported at the same event that Jack Back would be back to lend his voice for Slappy. So what the hell? Is Jack Black in this movie or not?
Well that leads us to the latest trailer that released today and . . . There is clearly no Jack Black visibly in the trailer. Slappy is featured in it, but I can’t tell if it’s Jack Black voicing him or not. Honestly, the trailer is pretty lackluster with the lack of Jack. The whole thing feels like a retread of the first movie and doesn’t really seem like a proper sequel. The plot centers around some kids unknowingly letting monsters from R.L. Stine’s book loose on the town on Halloween night and they have to go about trying to put them back. Yeah, sounds like it’s pretty damn similar to the first one. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
