It’s honestly shocking to me that “Wrong Turn” has gone all these years and not gotten a big screen remake yet. Not that I’m pro-remake or anything, but with every studio looking for a new horror hit and with so many remake options being explored it seemed like the “Wrong Turn” series had been long forgotten, until now.
Deadline is reporting that Constantin Film is remaking the original “Wrong Turn” with franchise creator Alan McElroy returning to write the script. Since its release in 2003 “Wrong Turn” has gone on to spawn five sequels. The last film was released in 2014, so it’s been a while since the world has had to deal with a wrong turn.
The “Wrong Turn” series focused on deranged hillbilly cannibals who ate people when they somehow got lost in their neck of the woods. The first one starred Eliza Dushku, so here’s hoping the remake has a place for her cause lord knows the world can always use more Eliza.
The new “Wrong Turn” will be directed by Mike P. Nelson (not to be confused with the MST3K host) who most recently directed “The Domestics.” According to Deadline the new “Wrong Turn” have an updated story:
The updated version is described as a timely and topical meditation on society and its issues. A cross-country hiking expedition puts a group of friends in the land of an inclusive society, where they soon discover they are under a different rule of law, and may not be the victims they thought they were.
Interesting wording, makes you wonder if it’ll still involve crazy hillbillies. Stay tuned as we learn more about this upcoming remake.
