Alright, don’t get too excited just yet, but it looks like the wheels may be slowly turning on a potential revival of iconic horror franchises “Scream” and “Hellraiser.”
The fine folks on Cinemablend had the opportunity to talk shop with Jason Blum. Just last year Blumhouse released the massively successful “Halloween” and Blum had expressed interest in the past in potentially revisiting other horror franchises. In this particular interview he was asked if there were any plans to try and bring “Scream” and “Hellraiser” back to the big screen. Here’s what Blum had to say.
Yes, we definitely have [discussed it]. We’re looking – there’s nothing happening with either one of those things – but we’re definitely looking at it, and it’s definitely something I’d be open to.
So at this point it sounds like Blumhouse is in the exploratory phase of seeing whether or not this would be possible for them to even do. Jason Blum doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy to lay his cards on the table right away, so even if something more concrete was in the works, he would likely be playing it pretty coy at this point.
Still, though, it’s interesting to see that there is interest in Blumhouse to help bring these properties back to theaters. “Scream” would definitely fit with the Blumhouse model as it would be an easy film to produce on a micro-budget. “Hellraiser” might be a bigger production, but certainly wouldn’t be too far out of the norm for Blumhouse.
For now we don’t have a whole lot to go on, only a potential spark of interest that will hopefully ignite into a much bigger fire. Stay tuned as we wait and see if anything develops out of this.
