I've been trying to recall a movie I watched on Netflix a few years ago. It was based on a true story of several teens that were bored, so they terrorized a woman & killed her (husband?). The movie was set mostly in the woods. I believe it was Swedish or maybe French? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only ones I have seen are A Tale of Two Sisters (great) and The Host (okay, not really horror), both from Korea. I've never watched any Chinese horror movies (Riki Oh doesn't count) or Thai movies.

Phenomena which came out in 1985 was directed by italian master of horror Dario Argento. It stars a young Jennifer Connelly, Donald Pleasance, and Daria Nicolodi.

The film has a good soundtrack with music by Goblin, Claudio Simonetti, Bill Wyman, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, etc.....

The film is about a rich girl who is sent over seas to a private boarding school and she has a special gift in which she can communicate with insects.

Well there is a serial killer on the loose at the school and that means gory kills, lol.

I like this film and the ending is great with the monkey. You gotta watch it to see what I am talking about lol.

A quick check of HM's foreign horror area did not yield any results for a general discussion Thread for foreign horror films. So, thought I'd start one. Most of the Threads in this area are for particular movies.

I actually credit HM for my relatively new love of many foreign horror movies. It had nothing to do with thinking my country (The States) makes better movies. It is a matter of my language being English. I considered it quite irritating to watch a movie with subtitles or dubbing. I've now seen too many great foreign movies to let that issue stop me. Many of these movies I wouldn't of even heard of if not for the great members of HM.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and I Saw the Devil are two obvious ones that stand out.

I recently saw another one - The Hidden Face. Not gory or scary, but has a sickness to it. Really original idea. Kind of a disappointing ending, but worth a watch.

Night of the Hunted

Or, how a cheapo eurotrash two pack from Amazon changed my mind about horror. After siting through Salvation/Redemption Films' bodacious bombshell, lezdom, softcore sleaze and Satanic Reichsploitation introduction (and thinking to myself, Holy night, is this the actual movie? I really DID waste my money), I was overjoyed to discover two fright classics from misunderstood genius Jean Rollin, Night of the Hunted and Living Dead Girl. The third flick in the pack, The Reincarnation of Isabel (directed by Renato Polselli), while chockablock with candy colored camp cinematography, didn't really float my boat.

But yeah, those Rollin numbers. I had no idea horror could be so dark and gentle and romantic at the same time, and shapeshift from softcore gore to hard in such seamless, fluid transitions. These movies are big time downers, and I got the feeling like, I don't know if I'm supposed to fall in love or feel like shit about it. My beloved genre was being elevated to the level of high art by a director who had been dismissed in his prime by an unenlightened mainstream. The masses were decidedly unappreciative of doomed lesbian romances that somehow survive the supposed finality of the grave, and massive government coverups that allow two starstruck lovers to hold hands in limbo forever. Even decades later the world is not ready for that kind of delicate depression.

On an ecological note, each film's so called monster is a result of environmental pollution, but since each "monster" is a misunderstood antihero who discovers true love after their toxic contamination, Rollin's message was kind of confusing until I realized that the tragic outcomes of the stories should be enough to deter such romantic and environmentally unsound notions in the mind of the viewer. I strongly recommend both Night of the Hunted and Living Dead Girl.

Hi Everyone,
I rented this Asian horror film years ago and I can't seem to remember the name of it. It's been driving me nuts for the last 3 years. The story starts with a group of robbers or a gang of some sort who just got done a job and they went to a warehouse to hide out in so the cops wouldn't find them. Little did they know that the place a some sort of zombie like monster in it. One by one they started getting killed and it turns out that a scientist who lost his daughter or wife I forget which re animated her and she turned into this creature. I believe she had something like fast speed and amazing strength. I know that the main hero was a female and the main monster was female. I just don't remember the movie's name ;_; and GO figure with my luck the place I went and originally rented it from is no longer in business so i can't even get a list of what I rented ;_; I do know it had to been around 1997-2002 I saw it on DVD. If anyone can PLEASE help me with finding this I would really appreciate it
