I personally think he's dark but in a much different way than poe. William Blake has some great poetry.

Funnily enough I write poetry but very rarely read it. But I second Plath whose work I have come across. Love the dark and delicious nature of them

Sylvia Plath, if you want something fairly dark.
Ted Hughes, if you want to compare poems about ravens with Poe's work, for example.

Plus they make for very interesting reading as individuals (Plath especially) and as a couple.

I'm gonna go with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, he's always been a favourite of mine.
I like the grandeur of his works.
