Hey guys! I'm new on this forum - I'm a young filmmaker, currently in the final pre-production stages of my first feature! This thread is a great idea just to say - and it seems like the question I want to ask is best asked to you lot here!

There's a scene in my film, where two men are being tortured by the villains, and one of the men is tied up and his hand is placed on the ground - and the villain uses a hammer to slowly go from the pinky finger to the thumb, smashing each of the fingers in with his hammer. Probably like many of you, I'm no fan of gore or violence in films that shies away - if somebody is getting their fingers hammered in, I want to SEE their fingers getting hammered in! I want the scene to be as horrifying as possible, and plan to shoot the hammer hitting the fingers in full detail. Trouble is - I've no idea how to do it. That's where you guys come in!

I tried the scene out in a test video, using a fake hand. The hand had nothing inside like, so when you hit it - the finger actually went in, and it did look okay, but I want to try some alternatives. I'd like for there to be some blood released perhaps, or something along those lines.

Anyway - hopefully you guys can help me! Sonny, particularly, I loved your photos up there and think your makeup work looks brilliant!

Here’s some pictures of some of the crazy ass effects I’ve done over the years! Some of these are behind the scenes, they encompass a bunch of my flicks, The New Girls, Highway 91, The Last Battleground, Bleed, Cold Blooded, The Aborted and Bloodgod!

Some of this stuff was made with nothing but duck tape, aluminum foil and the good old standby saran wrap!

Will do. Yeah we're gonna be entering production in late September, so I'm just doing the ground work now. The lead actor we have was in Blade the TV series, so I wanna see if there's any strings he can pull too.

i suggest finding a person who has a strong passion for effects make up

best bet would be a STUDENT in the area - who would be interested in doing it for some bongs, food, practice and good times.

or try searching for effects groups around your area - talk to them - see if they are bored and wanna do some cheap jobs?

Yeah that was a cool effect in Diary. We are doing a similar effect but with meshing the two burns together via a morphing technique rather than cgi.

nice - the best kill in Diary of the Dead - irekons, was the acid jar to the face kill - head slowly eating away - now that was cool CGI

i wanna do some latex course - to copy actors faces - for those really nice head shots - or decapitations - or any sort of head trauma

For Bone Cave we used a latex appliance for an eye gouge effect and also for some scars. We used a turkey baster for some blood effect and flicked it sideways which gave the splatter an interesting effect. I think i'm going to use the weed killer sprayer next time.
