I saw The Ward yesterday in the cinema. Being a huge Carpenter fan, I was really excited to seeing it and I was not disappointed. This film is vintage Carpenter full of cheap jumps, dark hallways and an extremely creepy looking ghost. Most critics has slated the film because of its not nothing like Halloween all i can say is if you go into the cinema thinking its gonna be the next Halloween your not gonna like it.

Heard mixed things about this.
But I would like Carpenter to have a comeback.
After being such a devoted fan his utter slump into the pit for the last 25 years or so has been heartbreaking.

Yup... and don't forget the Playboy shower scene. Not to mention the boring cliche (to mention one of a million in that trailer) of all the staffers acting weirdly (woooo.... aren't they scary????). Will someone PLEASE tell John to stop cutting Coke and remind him its 2011; not 1980. God. Are we absolutely sure he directed THE THING? I'm mean... has this been looked into?

Really looking forward to this one. If nothing else, it's gotta be worth the price of a one-time viewing. I'll admit it . . . I'm a sucker for anything Carpenter does, always have been. Even the stuff that I can admit is shitty.

I was lucky to see the premiere of The Ward at Tiff in Toronto. I really enjoyed it, I can't believe it took this long to come out. I saw Let Me In the same day and it has been out for a long time now. Hopefully it will go to the Theatres and not straight to video. It is an old fashioned horror movie with lots of jump scares.

Ghost Story was good, too. The criminally under-rated Craig Wasson, Alice Krige looking all sultry and nubile. And of course Fred Astaire.

Could've done without seeing Wasson's junk, but, I guess girls need a reason to watch horror flicks, too.

Hell house and Ghost Story are my all time favs. A good ghost story can be tough and they seem so few and far....

It would help if I didn't always have at least three going on at the same time. Right now I'm working on House of Vile Spirit (my ghost flick), A Dead New World (zombie flick, decided to start it over because it got too wild and unwieldy) and my werewolf flick, Desert Moon.

Ben, I agree with the direction most ghost movies have taken lately.

That's why the one I'm writing now is a throw back to the ghost flicks of the 70s, complete with violence, nudity (don't anybody go giving me crap about this after my comments in the sex in horror thread -- in my story it serves a purpose) and a downer ending.

The Sentinel. The Changeling. Legend of Hell House. Now THOSE are some great ghost flicks.

I've become leery of any movies that involve ghosts or hauntings these days. Far too often the movies go from creepy horror to "lets help the ghost so it can rest in piece" thus killing the intensity for the last 1/2 - 1/3 of the movie.

That being said, I'll still probably give this one a chance based on Carpenter's previous track record.
