I just recently watched Within The Woods on YouTube recently, and it was almost un-viewable, the copy was so old and tracky, but it was still worth it, just for the nostalgic feel.

Also met Bruce at a signing for If Chins Could Kill, and my already solid crush was totally cemented after that.  What a charmer!  Tall, dark and handsome, funny, and super nice to the fans.

Yes we get that, but it's easy to see why there was confusion. But really, does it matter THAT much what people think? It's a great movie and I'm looking forward to the remake.

It is definitely easy to see why there was confusion which is why it has been explained and answered on IMDB faq.  It kind of does matter what people think because it seems a decent amount think that Evil Dead 2 (one of the best Horror sequels ever) is in some way a remake.  Which is not true whatsoever.

I would consider Evil Dead a remake.  It's definitely not a true sequel, because that would mean Ash takes his new girflriend back out to the exact same house where all his friends and sister were killed and replays the same incantation on the tape player.  No.  Raimi took the original film, excised characters and condensed it down to roughly 20 or so minutes.  Whereas the first Evil Dead ends with Ash being captured by the evil force, in ED2 Raimi uses that moment to kick the story in a whole new direction.  But that first 20 minutes or whatever are a condensed retelling of the original film.

Think of it as being kind of the opposite of Rob Zombie's Halloween remake, which starts with all new material before finally settling in to the actual retelling the original's story.

Anyway, yeah, ED2?  Definitely a remake, IMO.

It is in every way a true sequel and is in absolutely no way a remake.  The part in Evil Dead 2 where Ash takes his new girlfriend and plays the same incantation on the player is a RECAP of the first film.  RAIMI wanted to RESHOOT the remake but wasn't able to get all the actors back so he reshot the recap with only 2 of the characters.  Once Ash wakes up in the front yard, the recap is over. 

Evil Dead 1 is the first day at the cabin and it ends right before the Evil force can get him.  Evil Dead 2 starts off with a recap of Evil Dead 1 and then it picks up RIGHT WHERE EVIL DEAD 1 LEFT OFF which makes it a sequel.

Raimi uses that moment to kick the story in a whole new direction? Sorry that is just not true at all.

It's always about distributor rights. 

It's a shame, too.  Despite Raimi and crew having absolutely no budget for it and it having been filmed on 8mm film, it's actually not all that bad.
