Hey all, so I said I would post the trailer to the short film that I made so here it is. I have submitted it the festival that I originally created it for and I will let you know if it gets in! If not then I will likely just post the whole thing online later on.

this is nice work vamp. keep going. you have potential so I'll share with you something I learnt from my experience. It takes a lot of courage for someone to give an honest but negative comment on your work. And it goes a long way if we apply it in the right way for our growth than to fight it. Because this is not your masterpiece. Your masterpiece is waiting somewhere out there.  and if you get stuck by one negative comment then you will never make your masterpiece.

I didn't think the acting was bad, but like some of the others have said, there are much more important things for me personally in a film than the acting. The plot, build up, pacing and ideas behind the film are what I look for. I also loved the switch from dark to light, and the lead kind of reminded me a little of Lola from The Loved Ones, definitely a good thing!

Might be but you got quite a few nice replics that stuck in my head in the trailer. "I'll be a star."
But for me the best thing that ever happen to humanity is the discovery of cinematography. And as I'm a fan of all of it, I enjoy seeing the work put out by everyone involved. H3LL, very rare are the movies I don't like. I don't feel good in the critic's seat. Much more confortable in the fan's one.
I love movie making. I watch every damn bonuses on every DVDs.

But it's interesting seeing the opinion of others I must say.

Exactly.  As I said, it's the writing and direction which make or break a movie at this level of filmmaking.  And for every one good SOV flick like Bloodletting, Vicious Sweet or Shatter Dead, you've got a dozen really terrible ones like Gore Whore, or Goroticka, or Blood Cult, or The Necro Files, or Strawberry Estates, or Schizophreniac: The Whore Mangler, or Gut-Pile. 

And when you've seen enough really shitty SOV flicks like those, the good ones tend to stand out.  And going strictly by the trailer -- which I consider successful because it did its job and got me interested -- this seems as though it could be one of the good ones.

But again, that's only my opinion as someone who's spent a lot of time in and around the world of SOV filmmaking.  I can't, and won't, hold it against others who haven't.

Incidentally, Vamp -- the blond actress is quite a looker and seems to be a decent actor, as well.  I may end up having to borrow her some day.

I think a lot of people love the room because of that (I have never seen it myself, but the place I am submitting this to plays it every month, seriously lol)...I really hope this doesn't turn out like The Room though! LOL.
I hope that if you see the full thing you feel she did well with the role. I used to go watch her plays in high school and she is a great actress on stage and an awesome singer.

Look at the movie Bloodletting, one of my favorite SOV flicks from the 90s.  The acting is stiff as hell, the effects are laughable, but it's so well-written and you can see so clearly what the filmmakers were going for that it's easy to forgive them their limited means and resources. 

At this level of filmmaking it's all about the spirit of the piece.  For some folks that's good enough, for others it isn't.  It's a matter of preference, and neither are right or wrong.
