I had a really rough year, went through beyond the worst tragedy my family will ever endure. It changed me as a person and hope it will continue to make me a better person as 2013 begins

And as far as 2012 horror movies go, very forgettable year. Only horror I can remember enjoying this year was Cabin in the Woods, Intruders, The Loved Ones, and Sinister

That being said, I haven't seen Cabin yet. But nothing has really blown my skirt up this year (that I've noticed).

Agreed. Plus I don't go by official reviewers. Much prefer listening to ACTUAL FANS like us here and other horror sites so what FHM say doesn't bother me but I found about 60% loved it the rest either liked it but found it floored or plainly hated it.

I loved Cabin the first time I saw it, but upon a second viewing noticed the weaknesses. Still decent horror entertainment, though, and at least it was an original idea and not another torture porn, slasher or zombie flick.

I wouldn't say Cabin in the Woods got mixed reviews. 91 percent of critics liked it according to Rottentomatoes. I am not a big fan of that site or judging movies based off it, but critics LOVED Cabin in the Woods as did most Horror fans. As far as Horror movies go, it got as good of reviews as you can possibly get. 185 out of 205 critics liked it on that site. Pretty amazing.

There are so many great things about the film. The acting all the way from Richard Jenkins to Hemsworth. The moments of "Everything is going to be OK, don't panic," Turned into a knife right through the throat. Hemsworth trying to make the jump across the cliff and his buddy telling him not too hold back, while Hemsworth replied "I never do." There are so many darn funny moments in the movie and it does it all while staying a horror film. Pays homage to basically every horror movie we've ever seen. Certain things like the set of the cellar are just so interesting. There was so much more to the idea of the movie that we didn't get to see. What if the Merman would have been chosen? What if a different monster would have been chosen? It leaves so much up to the imagination, while still playing it all out in the movie. You can't help but wonder "how does the Cenobite kill people."
Overhyped Cabin in the Woods? Who cares?

I went to the theater knowing nothing about it except that my buddy had a good feeling. We walked out of the theater with our minds blown. I said to him do you realize that these guys just basically fit every horror monster ever into one damn film. The shit was Evil Dead on steroids. I talked to so many people who felt the same way. The ONLY people I've seen who don't like the movie are a couple people on this site who feel it was "overhyped."

Cabin did get some mixed reviews but I was on a complete mission to not read or see anything before watching the movie so I wouldn't go into it with high expectations. Same with VHS and Prometheus. I find it's better that way so I don't have any disappointment. I went into VHS with a low expectation and it impressed me. Maybe my biggest problem is reading too much which is why I am often disappointed with a lot of movies, especially mainstream. I liked Scream 4 until the majorly over the top ending but I read endless reviews praising the ending..
