Topic: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

I was wondering if anyone had heard of this movie.  It is based off the series which was a manga series, video game, and an anime; by the same name.  The title literally translates into When Cicadas Cry (according to Wikipedia).  I have seen the anime and it is very hard to describe.

It is about this boy named Keiichi who moves to this village and meets all these girls who he goes to school with.  He also learns that the town has a festival and that every year, for the past four years, someone dies on that night.  In the anime (maybe in the manga too because I haven't read the manga), the story is told in a series of scenarios where the story slowly unfolds and you learn the truth of what is happening.

Now there is a live action movie being made.  Here is the link to the offical website.  It all in Japanese but there is a trailer that will pop up if you wait for a minute or so.

Here is a good fan-made trailer for the anime:

Anyways, has anyone heard of this movie or anime?  What do you think?  I'm still trying to watch the anime online so I don't have the whole story and there are two seasons of it.  But it really draws you.  The anime is awesome and I am excited about this movie.

Re: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

I can agree with yo there jamhorner.  The anime is really good except that you have to get used to the things it pulls on you.  Like I said, the story is told in a series of scenarios which means that sometimes, cliffhangers at the end of episodes are just ignored and the next episode starts it up like that episode was the first episode.  For an example, at the end of episode 4, the main character gets killed along with two other important characters.  But on episode 5, they are all alive and act as nothing happened.  You get re-introduced to some of the same characters over and over, but the story line is good and it's a lot of fun to watch.  I highly reccomend the anime.  Most of the episode can be found online (many of which are on Youbtube) and there is a second season but I'm not that far yet.  So anyways, it's a good anime.
And just for amusement purposes, this anime was featured in AMV Hell 4.  If you don't know what that is, it is a movie length series of anime clips put to music or sound bits which is supposed to make it funny.  This clip is Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni put to The Beatles song, Maxwell's Silver Hammer.  (This doesn't really fall under the horror category, but since it goes along with this topic, I decided to post it for fun),

By the way, the clips are from episode 4 in Season 1.  Hope you enjoyed and I'm kinda looking forward to the movie.  big_smile
