Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
It would take me more than a few minutes to really get to the heart of top 5 - so I'll just name some quick favorites... Hell House, Richard Matheson I am Legend, Matheson The Stand, Stephen King Dracula, Bram Stoker Ghost Story, Peter Straub The Ruins, Scott Smith Fear Book, John Byrne Perfume, Patrick Suskind For true crime, I don't read much, but I did like Helter Skelter , Bugliosi and A Perfect Husband by Aphrodite Jones

Well we agree on something! I loved Hell House and I am a HUGE fan of Perfume. I didnt add Perfume to my list as it isnt as much horror as some, but it's a great story. One of my favorite books and the movie was pretty decent too.

Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
^ Did you see the movie (Perfume)? It's hard to imagine it working. And what do you mean we agree on something? Didn't you see on Facebook that we are movie "Soulmates?" We matched up better than anyone else. The Hell House graphic novel came out recently - I'd rate it about a 6 out of 10.

Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
1. Weaveworld; Clive Barker 2. Beast House; Richard Laymon 3. IT; Stephen King 4; The Funhouse & By the Light of the Moon; Dean Koontz and 5. Silence of the Lambs; Thomas Harris
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
Could you really class Weaveworld as horror? I'd classify it more as fantasy, excellent book though. I'd swap silence of the lambs for the Hannibal omnibus, they are all excellent novels and I have to read them in order

Well considering I said the movie was pretty decent, then yes that means I've seen the movie. lol. Yeah I mean its not as effective as the book by any means. It's hard to convey all the sense of smell he has in visual form. At least writing can be descriptive to explain how his sense of smell works, visually it was tough to do. Overall I think they did a decent job with it though. They cut out the whole section of when he was living in the cave though. So there is a whole section of the book gone. It's worth a rent if you liked the book though, just like Choke will be worth the rent when that comes out. We are soul mates?
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
Macho, I do because yes there is an element of horror. True it is fantasy but there are many moments in the story that verge to the more grotesque side of horror. So I class it as a horror-fantasy, make fun but I am a strange creature

Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
Does anyone know of any good werewolf or vampire novels besides Salem's Lot and Silver Bullet?
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
Here are some really good vampire books. No romance, just horror. Midnight Mass by F. Paul Wilson 13 Bullets and 99 Coffins by David Wellington Stake and The Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon Blood Red by James A. Moore The only good werewolf book I can remember reading is The Howling by Gary Brandner

I've heard good things about David Wellington's vampire series. I dont know if there is an actual name in the series but the books (in order) are: 13 Bullets, 99 Coffins, and Vampire Zero. Maybe give 13 Bullets a read and see if the series is worth reading the rest of. I havent read them but heard they are pretty decent. He wrote Monster Island which I also hear is a good zombie novel.

Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
damn you beat me too it Macho! If you read 13 Bullets, have you read the rest of the series?
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
Not yet they're a little tricky to get hold of in the UK for a reasonable price But you've got to read his Monster Island trilogy it's outstanding and throws an interesting spin on the genre
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
I hate these types of lists. it's way too hard on the noggin', but here goes... Swan Song by Robert. R. McCammon (TacTac....yes!!) The Stand by Stephen King Hell House by Richard Matheson (nice list Constantce) The Damnation Game by Clive Barker The Call Of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft

Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
I just thought of another great read which is: The Keep by F. Paul Wilson(I also have the movie of it on vhs)
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
The Keep was a great book. I didn't care for Michael Mann's film though.
Re: Your top 5 horror or true crime novels
These are some of my favourites: Red Dragon (or any of the Lecter books apart from the ending of 'Hannibal') - Thomas Harris Let The Right One In - John Ajvide Lindqvist (just read it and loved it - much gorier than the film!) The Stand (or any of his earlier books) - Stephen King The Rats (or almost any of his books) - James Herbert Every Dead Thing (all his books) - John Connelly Dark Rivers of the Heart (or almost any of his books) - Dean Koontz For true crime, I've read a few but books about Jack the Ripper are my favourite. Yeah, that's a lot more than 5 - I'm no good at lists!
