Topic: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Scanners is one of my all time favorite movies. Today word comes that Darren Lynn Bousman who directed Saw and SAW 2 will be directing the remake of one of the best sci-fi horror flicks made. David Cronenberg's 1981 horror film is a darkly paranoid s...

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

First, "The Fly", and now, "Scanners"?  Pretty soon, "The Brood", will get the remake treatment.  Plus, isn't Darren Lynn Bousman already said to direct "Saw 4"?

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Damn another remake?

Well, after SAW II (and in the future SAW III when I get the dough) I am confident Bousman can at least pay some homeage to it and possible succed like only Zach Synder and Alexandre Aja have.

At least it isn't some guy fresh from music vids and hopefully it will at least won't be painful to sit through.

Bousman is doing SAW IV right now, he apparently also has a musical on his slate.  Possible after IV he does Scanners or does it after the musical.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

You can say the same about Bousman.  He came straight from doing music videos to "Saw 2" and "Saw 3".  Maybe, a fresh candidate might be the better option.  I'm happy with Bousman directing "Saw 4", but I know some people that weren't fond of what he did to the "Saw" series.  I, personally, hope he comes through for us like he did in the past.

A musical, huh?  Could it be, "Cannibal! The Musical" remake?  tongue

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

for those who have not seen scanners i have a review in my morguespace. it really is a kick ass film.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Well TiM Bousman was able to nail SAW II unlike some of his other music video peers who failed.

btw, Meh couldn't find your Scanners review.

The 1 upside with this remake as with others for the most part....the original will hopefully get a snazzy DVD treatment.  Only the Hitcher seemed didn't seem to get that.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Scanners is a MUST SEE film for any fan of movies.  I wonder what the next remake will be in the insane world of Hollywood?

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

This too much. I never thought Scanners would ever be remade. It's a great movie the way it is. This is proof that every well known and not so well known movie is going to be getting the remake treatment sometime along the way. roll

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

I love scanners, But a remake with techno we have today, it has the potential to be an awesome remake.
maybe they will remake Rabid..hee hee

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Probably will if Scanners and The Fly make money.  Maybe also a Dead Zone remake.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

If they remake Rabid, which porn star are they going to get to play Marilyn Chambers' role? tongue

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Also David Goyer is writing it which may help.

ROFL you crack me up!! too funny..Scarlett Johannson would be perfect in that role, well any role for that matter....lol

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Think they might touch Videodrome?

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Probably.  And pick some current big singer for Deborah Harry's role or change it to a bunch of teens and make it a movie like The Ring.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

"Scanners" is an excellent film.  It also stars Patrick Kilpatrick, which is cool.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Scanners? Why would they touch that movie? And Videodrome? Why would they even consider that? That's one movie that has stood the test of time and something I would never want to see be remade.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

So far Videodrome hasn't been announced.

But I can bet everyone that producers are eyeing it and Cronenberg's other works to see if the Scanners and Fly remakes get underway and make bank.  If they do the rest of Cronenberg's works will be grabbed.

I forget where I read it, will look for it...but apparently Bousman will do SAW IV and the horror Opera before Scanners so production won't start till 2008.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

I think that Golden hit it on the nose.  If "Scanners" and "The Fly" make some money, you can expect more Cronenberg remakes in the near future.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

I guess the only reason to remake Scanners is to improve the fx on the infamous head explosion. I can't see any other reason.

And yeah Dead, Scarlett Johannson would be sweet in that role tongue

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Is it my imagination or the remakes are coming really fast?

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

God!! its like a nightmare,
- First they announce another remake
- Second it's a film I really like
- And third the guy that did Saw 2 & 3 is directing it arghhhhhhhhh!

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

Only Cronenberg film that is safe is A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE as it is so recent as well as it is more of a drama.

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

not see Scanners yet.
but are other two movies good as first ?

Re: Darren Lynn Bousman Directing Scanners Remake

I liked SAW II, haven't seen SAW III yet.
