Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I Spit on Your Grave 2 - 8/10

Same score I gave the remake, I liked both for different reasons - each did some things better than the other. The assault is worse in this one I find (which was not really necessary but expected) but the revenge scenes are not as satisfying as the remake's, of course they are still brutal. However I really love that they show the victim (Katie) preparing her attacks and surviving after her assault in this one, like what was did in the original (78). In the remake they don't explain her survival. I also liked the woodland setting of the remake better (like the original) but I know they needed to change something for this one of course. Overall it's not quite as good as the remake, but it's pretty solid for a sequel and I think the transition from victim to avenger was cool in this one and I find its just as well made and acted. I'd watch a 3rd.

John Carpenter's The Fog (re-watch, 9/10)

Always great. The panoramic shots that the film tells its story through is a beautiful medium to work with...makes everything as big as life.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Deadly Blessing (1981) - 7.5/10

A pretty cool horror flick featuring a unique story and starring Maren Jensen (who is drop-dead gorgeous) in her last screen appearance. Also stars Ernest Borgnine and features a role by Michael Berryman! Anyway, it's a decent horror film with a pretty cool ending scene. Not a great movie by any means, but it's certainly recommended for Craven fans who haven't seen it yet.

You forgot the most inmportant and goprgeous ones in this, SHARON STONE!!! And it's her first feature film she ever did. Already starting awesome, showed at the start what an incredible actress she would become. smile

GHOST VOYAGE [2008]

Man what a great one that is. A bunch of peeps wake up on a boat which is without a damn crew. In fact, the ship is haunted by some entities which are great looking. Wonderful set designs and a very sinister atmosphere that I like a whole lot. Some effect are bad, especially the first Death's lightning and all but you forget it because the rest are cool. Pretty solid acting by actors I've never seen before. That I remember though...

Gorgeous images from beginning to end.

Yup a very entertaining one. Me likes. smile

Dreamscape (1984)

Quite a cool movie about a psychic (Dennis Quaid) getting involved with a government project to help people by entering their dreams. It's more of a sci-fi/thriller but it does have some horror elements which I enjoyed (some dream sequences in particular). It does get kind of Nightmare on Elm Street-ish.

David Patrick Kelly is in it as well (had to look up his name) - recognised him from a couple of flicks, most notably as Sully from Commando. The guy that Arnold says the incredible line to: "Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last? I lied."

Anyway, decent movie only spoiled by some shoddy 80s' effects.

Sharon Stone is a big name, I know, but I'm not very familiar with most of her work (with the exception of seeing her in a few more minor movie roles). I definitely need to watch Scorsese's Casino sometime...which Sharon won best actress for. But yes, she did strike me as very pretty in Deadly Blessing. Guess I was distracted more by Maren Jensen's legs in the bathtub scene. tongue

The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia - 6.5/10, letter grade: C

Overall, not too bad. It's not as creepy as the first film. It's also pretty silly that the title says "Haunting in Connecticut" when it has absolutely nothing to do with Connecticut and everything to do with Georgia. Choose a damn state and stick with it,  dammit! tongue
But I regress. It's not a great ghost flick, but it had its moments.

Oh man, you've GOT TO SEE her best work EVER, the magnificient BASIC INSTINCT. Created an onslaught of freaking out because there's a scene where he snaps a shot of her pussy... No idea what they were freaking about, I enjoyed a whole lot!!! lol Douglas and her fucking are amazing too. But the best is the character she plays, a wonderfully badass and funny but mad writer that goes killer. smile

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

^ It's definitely on my list, P! I'm on an even tighter budget these days, but we'll see if I procure a copy at some point relatively soon. I know that one shot of her dressed in white with her legs crossed is quite iconic. Should be an interesting watch.

I'll email you my DVD, it's the Director's Cut. If it was THAT easy. lol

But yeah, an awesome crime story with a story out of worldly cool. The lines Sharon gets out are so damn cool man, you'll enjoy it I'm sure.

Definitely a grand classic by a grand director, Verhoeven rules.

Deadly Blessing (1981)

Saw that Creature watched this recently, and haven't seen this Craven flick before. I wasn't keen on it at the start, but things did start to pick up eventually. The movie has mostly gotten negative reviews and I can see why. Plot wise it is messy and devoid of detail at times. They appear to have gotten the definition of incubus confused with succubus (which they have admitted to, or so I've read). And there's a tacked on ending scene that was apparently done from a separate production scene.

Saying all that, I thought the atmosphere was good and I was fairly engaged. The scenes with the spiders creeped me the hell out, not sure if there was some sort of symbolism there but spiders are enough by themselves to be horror!

7/10

(Not sure why I'm drawn to give it as high a rating as that because it isn't particularly GOOD, but still.)

I started watching that last night, but I was a bit annoyed when it referred to 'lost cam footage'.

I'm not a fan of lost footage movies.

So you reckon it's good? Okay I will give it another go.

Hmmm, strangely, only now I realize this one is a LF movie. But the circumstances are so well set that it actually makes sense to be one. Def give it another go, but don't expect a Red Planet kind of sci-fi, though they are similar.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

VHS 2 - liked it a lot but not as much as the first. Thought the first story (clinical trials) was terrible and a complete waste of time, but the second and third stories were both fantastic; the fourth was kind of hit or miss. 7/10

Intensity (1997).  First time I've watched it in years.  Not a bad made-for-TV flick, but John C. McGinley is definitely the best thing about it.
