Messiah of Evil

Great little movie with a nice pacing and atmosphere. Felt like a mix between Mouth of Madness, Evil Dead and The Fog.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

@Big G- sorry I dropped out on you; family stuff.

@Garden- we had a fun impromptu night watching Maniac a few months back.  We were very distressed about the amount of plaid, lol .

Mutant Vampire Zombies from the 'Hood!

What a weird movie.  In one sense, it makes zero sense.   On the other hand, it combines about 10 different movies: Aliens, Re-Animator, Night of the Comet, NotLD, any random cops hook up with gangsters to survive movie.  It pulls off the "It over man!" line, "I'm tired of these motherfucking zombies in the motherfucking 'hood!" line, among others.

They figure out the head shot rather quickly, and mostly don't forget about it.

Video and audio quality is good, FX are decent (oh man, when one girl zombie is chowing down, then let's out a "Yum, Rockie Mountain Oysters," I just about fell over laughing), plot is stupid (a solar flare turns people into vampires and/or zombies and/or mutants, or some combos of all 3; it also makes gasoline not flammable.).  The acting is hit or miss, but actually way better than I was expecting (of course, I was expecting muppet-level acting, so... ).

So it's not something to write home about, but it's OK and has a good amount of humor.  It's like some weird cross-combo of Scream and Scary Movie.

I can't really give it a thumbs up recommendation, but it is a fun watch (at least for me).  And final girl also has very pretty eyes, and is a good sniper and has a never-ending clip of M-4 ammo.  And any film that has a "Gratuitous Nudity Zombie Victim" credit can't be too bad, eh?  lol

Most of you will probably not like this one, but I'm going-
6.5/10

Freaks (1932) - 8/10 Such a wonderful movie, and so ahead of its time. Hans is my boy!

Night of the Living Dead Remake (1990) - 8.5/10 I was very very impressed and enjoyed the movie alot.

The Fly (1986) - 10/10 David Cronenberg is a genius. and The Fly proves so.

Night of the Creeps (1986) - 8/10 such a funny movie, with great characters!

Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon (2007) - 10/10 Holy shit. This movie was incredible. A must see for all horror fans imo.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) - 8.4/10 I loved this and I was surprised that I did.

Child's Play (1988) - 9/10 Great movie!

Don't Look Now (1973) - 3/10 This movie sucks... Plain and simple. Don't waste your time with it.

Christine (1983) - 8/10 A great, great movie. John Carpenter ftw.

Land of the Dead (2005) - 8/10 Fantastic. George Romero still has it!

From your scores I think that you are very similar to me! Except I haven't seen Freaks yet.

Halloween 4 was cool though the mask looked kind of dumb. Still menacing in its own way, but dumb. I didn't "get" Don't Look Now - wasn't really for me.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956)

I always classified this film into both categories: sci-fi and horror.

Powerful and still a very disturbing classic.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Psy.... you hated "Don't Look Now"!? Donald Sutherland was awesome!

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Chomper - yeah, in halloween 4 that was its worst flaw. Other than that Michael was still up to his vicious killing, that's why i liked it. Plus, Donald Pleasance was hilarious in it as always.. "This isn't a man we're dealing with... it's evil on 2 legs.."

Lost Boy - that movie was SO SLOW and made no sense whatsoever! I kept trying to become intrigued with the plot but I couldn't it was just so lame, plus the 30 minute sex scene also added to the unnecessary-ness to the movie

Thought for a second there that you were talking about The Lost Boys lol I think some people got their own tastes in films. I hated Poltergeist too. Yet still give it an 8/10 WTH!?

I found Poltergeist very overrated myself yikes

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

The Apparition (2012) - When strange events begin occuring in their new home, a young couple discover that they are being haunted by an unknown presence that was accidentally released during a parapsychology experiment.  Ashley Greene was nice to look at in her underwear, but that was about it.  Had the look and feel of something made to appeal to the twilight crowd.  2/5.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Excision (2012)- I really liked this one.  AnnaLynne McCord was amazing as the main character. Traci Lords plays her mother and John Waters and Malcolm McDowell make brief appearances in it. The movie has a good amount of gore in some dream sequence parts. I was really impressed with it, especially since it is the director, Ricky Bates Jr., first directorial debut. 7.5/10

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Just finished Some Guy Who Kills People I don't know if I would class this as horror, but it was still an entertaining movie.Could have been better, but it is still a movie I will revisit.

God told me to

A movie that went into three different unexpected directions. And then there was the weird pacing/editing with many fast jumps.
A weird movie. Still nice to look, but not something I would universally recommend.

I rated Videodrome higher than that.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Don't get me wrong Videodrome was great. The reason why it wasn't higher is because I'm not a huge fan of a whole lot of soft core porn in a movie. You don't know how to feel, it's just awkward. Other than it was amazing

Consider it a high 8 though, like an 8.8 smile

The Curse of February 29 (2006) - After a driver hands her a bloody ticket, a tollboth attendant discovers that a lethal curse strikes the tollbooth every leap year on the 29th.  Picked this one up after Az mentioned it a few days back.  Overall it was okay.  It takes a long time to get going, but it does get more interesting towards the end.  2.5/5.

eXistenZ

My god, I love it. Last time I've seen it must be more than 10 years ago. And it did indeed stood the test of time. It has a sinister Cronenberg atsmospere which I like even more than usual because of the isolation (And Dafoe as a creepy Gas Station Man).
But what's most incredible about it is the amount of detail that went into... everything. The animals, the gun, the game system and it's consequences, social, physical and mental.
And then there is the cast with Law, Leigh, Holm, Dafoe and... Eccleston!
God, I love this movie.

I think Videodrome is a bit overrated, hence my score of 7/10. I like Cronenberg's earlier films like Shivers and Rabid a LOT better.
