Yeah you bet it's edgy.

I don't understand why could people hate Hostel.
Eli Roth is a freaking GENIUS. Cabin Fever for example...

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Eli Roth is a subject you'll find you and I VASTLY disagree on. lol

I thought Cabin Fever was just plain stupid.  I especially hate the "Pancakes!" kid, though I dig his special feature on the DVD (bo staff demonstration, kid's got some moves).

Hostel - unlikable characters, vapid plot, storyline seemed almost like anti-Slovic propoganda and the gore didn't even come close to delivering what Roth hyped.  Dude was always going on about how "sick" and "extreme" it was going to be, then didn't even have the balls to deliver.  That is, until...

Hostel 2 -- which I think is his best movie to date.  That might not seem like saying much when I feel his two previous flicks are 3 and 4 out of 10 respectively, but I'd give this one a 6.5, maybe 7 out of 10.  Stronger story, more sympathetic characters, some excellent cameos (Ruggero Deodato and Edwige Feneche, for instance) and some actually memorable splatter set-pieces.  But then Tarantino had a lot of input on this one, so it's not really totally Roth's baby, and hence no real reflection on Roth himself as a filmmaker.

But hey, we can't all agree on everything.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I think you got to understand, Hostel is one of the few "torture porn" (or whatever the term is) that actually went mainstream and got widely known by even people who don't watch horror films. Most of them these days just end up straight to DVD and don't sell that well (maybe some do).

Hostel was gory enough to the point that it succeeded in what it was trying to do, even though it's not the most gory film of all time. The plot you talk about, of course the plot is going to suck. That's obvious, to me anyway. Why even suspect a good plot in these types of movies? They focus on other things in the movie that draw in the viewers, and having a simple enough plot that it makes sense for the "torture porn" stuff to happen.

It's not the best movie ever, it's not even a great movie at that. But then again, it's not trying to be either of them things. It's just trying to be a movie that freaks out people.

I'm talking about Hostel, I can't even remember Hostel 2.

That's just my two cents on it anyway.

^^
Hostel is just people torturing other people.  What's the point?  There is no narrative to make me care about anyone.  And that's not even considering how preposterous the whole idea is.  Many people keep going missing from the same area for years, and no one connects them?

I don't hate it.  It's just dumb for me. Cabin Fever is much the same.  **Spoilers**
People get sick from drinking the water.  Then at the end the hick family with a store is shown getting water to sell.  They never drink that water, ever?
**End spoilers**

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

^ That's my entire point, Hostel isn't trying to be any better than it is already. It's just a movie about torturing people like you say. That's all it is about.

I dont hate hostel for being dumb. I dislike it for being poorly made directed dumbness. Films like Planet Terror, Dead Snow or Hobo With A Shotgun are well made ands directed dumbness.

Luckily. lol

I like Hostel 2 a bit more than the first but it's only because of the girls.

And Cabin Fever is pretty damn cool for me, loved the actresses way of playing this. The scene in the bathroom where she shaves her legs is amazing. Well to me it is. And the girl in the barn is awesome.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

My favorite part of Cabin Fever is the hotness of all the chicks. Especially Cerina Vincent.

I dig Cabin Fever & Hostel too. Though, I've been a fan of Cabin Fever for a lot longer.
Haven't seen Hostel 2, but it's on 'the list'.

Ah, you got your post in before mine.  I sound rather redundant that way, lol.

@Lon- the kid in Cabin Fever's special features was amazing.  Give me 20 more minutes of him funking people up in the movie and I'd be happy.

Finally Seen
Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)

I knew this was going to be really gory but I had no idea, it was going to be as gory as it was,

I do love gory movie now and again, this movie took it on  to the next level, which some scenes were way over the top,  which Kinda of took some of the fun out of this movie, as those scenes were not fun at all to watch , they are really hard to watch.

I did enjoy first 40 mins of the movies, I found it fun, even with the really bad acting from the the bad, who find a little too cartoonist at times

6 out of 10

The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Too tired to give my two cents. 9/10

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Black Christmas

Still one of the best slashers ever made, and one of my favorite movies of all time. I always watch it at Christmas - kind of my own tradition big_smile

Billy is still a horrifying character since we know so little about him, and the voices on the phone are horrible too.

Plus the ending is pretty scary too.

I'm kind of worn out to give my whole opinion of it.

Overall rating: 10/10

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

^^Now I feel like watching Black Christmas..
