Re: Found Footage Films
Aha - Thought that's what it was Az, but you remembered it better. Good call. Survivalist - Yeah, it's been a while since I saw Cloverfield, but think you are right about that? Edit - The more I think bout it, not sure bout Cloverfield. Seems that is was supposed to be footage from a video camera? Don't know.

Re: Found Footage Films
Yeah, the camera was dropped in a giant pipe thingy at the end. BUT, now that I think about it, we saw what's his face go rescue the chick from under the column. Was that on tape or live? I don't recall. Shit. I've been meaning to watch it again recently anyway.

Re: Found Footage Films
Yeah, dude was taping for his buddies party or something when it all went down right? Found Footage.
Re: Found Footage Films
Yeah. And in the beginning and the end, you can see pieces from when they were on their way to Coney that sort of got taped over.
Re: Found Footage Films
No actually i dont lol i need to watch this again.
Re: Found Footage Films
the pictures of coney and such were days before the party and arrival of cloverfield, it was to show the mystery object crash into the water etc..basically he was just taping over old footage. and it didnt fall in a pipe at the end, he and the girl were trapped under a overpass in central park or something and we saw everything collapse and the camera faded out.
Re: Found Footage Films
I didn't say it fell into a pipe. I said it was dropped in a pipe. It was one of those HUGE, walkthrough things, reminiscent of A Clockwork Orange.
Re: Found Footage Films
lol ohhh ok, yeah it was an overpass / tunnel they hid out in.
Re: Found Footage Films
Ghostseeker wrote:^ It's not. Neither is - The Possession of David O'Reilly. Though Bassi, not knocking your list. Very impressive. Thanks for doing that. Many I haven't heard of. I'd be curious how many, if any, were made before 1999. Other than The Last Broadcast, St Francisville experiment...and of course CH.
^ That okay!, your right thought, as they mention in this post, i just put them on the list anyway! also Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (Alien Abduction: The McPherson Tape (1998) which was a remake from UFO Abduction (Video 1989) and was also something called Månguden (1988)

LOL that post kinda threw me off a bit also, I was thinking "I really don't remember the camera falling in a pipe" Also, since we are picking apart BASSI's list, I just rewarched Behind the Mask:The The Rise of Leslie Vernon and its not found footage either but a mokumentary.

Re: Found Footage Films
Ok...to me, a mockumentary would be the same as found footage. I would have Vernon and Lake Mungo in this category. The point being, the premise is that it is a movie made up of footage someone in the film was supposed to of shot themselves. Are you guys and gals saying you would only count it if it was really footage that was supposed to be found? Cannibal Holocaust would be a mockumentary too you know. The Possession of David O'Reilly - On the other hand, is in no way found footage, mockumentary, or any of those. Just a regular movie. * Edit - Well, as far as my recollection of CH...the guy that came back, and was showing the film, I think was one of them that shot it. Guess I'm not sure if it was more FF or mock, but think it woulda fit more mock.

Re: Found Footage Films
Yes, in my thinking a FF film is a movie shot on video and shownto the audience. Blair Witch and the Poughkeepsie are perfect examples of this. Also CH would be half regular movie and half found footage I guess. But who am I to decide these things...I guess it could be a matter of opinion. And the "actual" footage from CH was found, the guy who went to island to find the kids who were making the documentary was the one who brought the footage back...I think.

^ Ahhhh...that's right Saw. Disregard my CH point. CH woulda been FF (part anyway).

Re: Found Footage Films
La Casa Muda aka The Silent House is definitely not found footage. Its claim to fame is that it was filmed in one continuous shot.
Re: Found Footage Films
^^Or filmed to LOOK like one continuous shot^^ Still a great flick tho. And yes, not FF or Mock.

Lovely Molly has parts that are filmed in Found Footage, but not the entire movie. I would definitely recommend it. The actress that played Molly was really convincing in her role.

Re: Found Footage Films
^After Lovely Molly, Eduardo Sanchez will return to the sub genre he helped to define with his next project Exists. In addition to the other upcoming Big Foot found footage The Lost Coast Tapes, I am looking forward to Eduardo's next film. http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/54327/

sounds interesting...ever notice Sanchez's fondness of using the woods as a creepy background or setting,as in Blair Witch & Altered?
Re: Found Footage Films
I'm surprised that there's not more found footage bigfoot or werewolf movies , it seemed like a natural fit to me. Upcoming low budget found footage movie involving bigfoot or something Man and Earth (the filmmakers are all based in US but the movie is apparently subtitled) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dgERXaxHrY http://www.hombreytierra.com/ Her Cry about the hispanic latin legend of La Llorona , the weeping woman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFoRMENUf7k Frost from iceland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka6ngFaL-gk
Re: Found Footage Films
While the blair witch project might be the movie that set the ball rolling on the "found footage" genre. There was another movie on the blair witch that was overlooked. The Curse of the Blair witch - a mockumentary of a mockumentary. It's pretty surreal. It was supposed to complement the myth of the blair witch movie but it kind of stands out on its own. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVXEsYLKdxc

By none other than Eduardo Sanchez, who also did the short An Exploration of the Blair Witch Legend. Interesting that all three are credited as being released in the same year. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0844896/
