Topic: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

Stephen King has been called a master of horror and rightly so; with over 50 adaptations of his written works, one can’t deny that he has been a major influence in the genre for over three decades. But with so damn many adaptations out there, can you pick your favorite?

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

So many to choose....but for my favorite film adaptations of his novels, I'd have to go with either "Carrie" or "Rose Red"

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

Kubrick's 'The Shining' and DePalma's 'Carrie'... Stephen King hated Kubrick's adaption of The Shining but what does he know about film?... nothing.

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

I think I've read about 90% of the books he's written.  I survived on them when my parents wouldn't let me watch scary movies when I was a kid.  I guess they thought books were better for a young mind, although I always found the imagery in the books to be much more disturbing than in the movies.  I'd have to say my favs are Carrie and The Mist.  And I always preferred the TV version of The Shining over the movie version.

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

Without doubt, Salem's Lot (1979). But the 2004 version's good too.

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

The Shawshank Redemption, Silver Bullet, Stand By Me, The Shining. I'm hoping that a story he wrote as Richard Bachman titled "The Long Walk," will one day be made into a movie.

Nice call! "The Long Walk" is THE best written work that I've ever read. As a film adaptation it has the potential to be amazing, but more than likely they'd fuck it up.

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

I can't be doing with the Shamshack Redemption,  or whatever that cliché filled crap is called.

I am in a minority I know who finds that film extremely boring.

I hear you, but any movie that has Tim Robbins getting anally raped has some merit.

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

The Shining (1980) is one of my favorite horror movies. I like most of the adaptions that I have seen but some favorites are...

Misery
The Mist
Storm of the Century
Needful Things
The Stand
Dreamcatchers
Carrie
Pet Semetary

Re: Your Favorite Stephen King Adaptation

Huge Stephen King fan. Thanks to my dad having a huge collection. Some of my favs...

Pet Semetary- Prob my favorite one of all.

The Langoliers- Even though the special effects were just, Meh.

The Mist- Great story, great movie.. provoked plenty emotion.

Misery- Kathy Bates played the hell out of that role.

Thinner- I know that it wasn't the best adapation, but I loved it.

Sometimes They Come Back- Another one not many ppl liked, but I enjoyed.

Carrie

The Tommyknockers

The Mangler- I actually seen the movie before reading the short story.. but I really enjoyed the movie.

and also one of his story he wrote for 'Creepshow' The one with Leslie Neilson. That cracked me the hell up.. My fav short in the film.
