It's not Meh.  With all the work he has put into, and continues to put into the joint?  No way would he risk scaring off members both old and new like this.  It's just highly, highly improbable.

I vented at SD last night and paid for it today, so I won't be saying anything else about the guy any time soon.

No, unfortunately this is all very much for real.  We had problems from this particular member a couple years back and neither the mods nor the admin were able to put a lid on him.  Thus far we've been unable to track his IP, and while we were finally able to ban him, he continues to post and tinker with other users despite it.  This is why we call him the ghost in the machine, because whoever it is, he's able to do things on this site that not even the admin can do. 

But he tends to focus on those who refer to him by name, or who taunt him, so as long as you do neither, you should be fine.
