Forgot about MBV '09 (fixed it).  I'm not sure if I've checked out the NOTD remake, though.  I think I did, but if so I don't remember squat about it, which is saying something. hmm

Re: Remakes by your opinion

I didn't like NotDs remake 1st view, 2nd view I reversed my opinion.

Erm monkey I dunno what you meant here.

Re: Remakes by your opinion

In response to Lon's post-  I did not like the remake of Night of the Demons on my first viewing.  I went back and rewatched it, and reversed my opinion and decided I did like it.

I can get a little carried away with the short hand posts.

Nice, I would add Night of the Living Dead (1990) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (78) also. Though I wasn't a huge fan of the My Bloody Valentine remake it was enjoyable. Oh, and i did really enjoy the TCM remake.

Re: Remakes by your opinion

^^^ I knew I'd forget a couple.  I always do when asked to make a list.  So many movies out there, even I can't remember all of them. lol

I remember you didn't like it...as you said so after I wrote about how I liked it.  I did not know you reversed your opinion though...cool.  smile

I really like:

Texas
Friday
Blob
I spit
Last House
Dawn of Dead? 2004
House on Haunted Hill
Hills Have Eyes
Night of Demons
13 Ghosts

Like:

Halloween
House of Wax

I hate many many many...but I'll include:

Elm St.
Halloween 2

Re: Remakes by your opinion

The ones that piss me off are Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St, Last House on the Left, Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine, Psycho, Let me In, The Fog, Halloween 1 and 2, Black Xmas.  I had an OK time watching Friday the 13th with some friends, but I think they did literally the worst job they could possibly do on that film.  The acting was sooo cringe worthy.  Those 80s movies were cheesy but the acting wasn't nearly as terrible.  You actually had Crispin Glover, and Corey Feldman in The Final Chapter.

The Fly
The Thing
Night of the Living Dead
The Blob

Those have gotta be my top 4 remakes.  Don't love the Blob but shit is pretty cool considering it is one of Chuck Russels few films..

Oh another good one that I'm sure no one is going to mention and is DEFINITELY worth watching is Tobe Hooper's Invaders From Mars.  Not a great movie but I'm a pretty big fan and it does a good job at remaking a 50s scifi and making it a lot more scary...This should definitely be considered a good remake though...

Fright Night is also really fucking fun too.

And I've gotta see Body Snatchers 78.  Have always heard great things.

The real question is which is better.  The Fly or The Thing?  Hands down the best two remakes ever in my opinion...

Re: Remakes by your opinion

The toolbox Murders was another Hooper remake that was pretty good but not much at all like the original though.

Re: Remakes by your opinion

I really loved The Wolfman also, I know not many liked it but I think its one of my favorite remakes.

@Lon. I was pretty sure you was a fan of NOTLD (90) atleast... smile

Re: Remakes by your opinion

Damn I really need to see that Wolfman.  Never gave it a chance but I have a feeling from what I've seen from it, I may enjoy it.

Toolbox Murders is good?  Might have to check that one out as well

Yeah, pretty much anything with Savini is good by me (except for that god-awful Children of the Living Dead...*retch* ).

Didn't care a great deal for The Wolfman remake.  I'm a big fan of Benicio Del Toro, Hugo Weaving and Anthony Hopkins (who doesn't like that guy?) but it just felt like it was missing something. hmm

Re: Remakes by your opinion

Oooh I could be treading on egg shells right now but I'm sick of not voicing my opinion for fear of being flamed so here goes.

I like movies. I don't judge them apart from when I'm doing reviews but mostly I just want to watch a movie and enjoy it so I don't hold it up to anything else. If I don't like it I don't like it. If I do, I do. If it happens to be a remake thats the way the dice fall, not my problem.

I liked:

Dawn on the dead. (it was the one to bring me back to the horror genre as a genre fan and not just a casual fan)
Last House.
I Spit.
The Wolfman
House on Haunted Hill
My Bloody Valentine
The Grudge (although, no it wasn't as scary but it was enjoyable)
The Ring
Mother's Day (It doesn't hold anything similar to the original really but it's one hell of a movie!)

Ones I didn't like: (not hated. It's a strong feeling to have about something that isn't going to effect my life one bit)

Nightmare on Elm Street.
Halloween (I'm not a fan of the original so the story and deep stuff is lost on me)
Let me in.
The Hills have eyes. (it's far too gory. The first was much better and didn't rely on the shock factor)

To be honest, I've not see THAT many remakes, especially of foreign horrors because I love foreign horror so I don't really watch the remakes. I am disapointed that 2 near perfect movies such as Oldboy and Martyrs are being remade and for mainstream audiences and I think the morals, messages and power will be lost and abandoned to appeal to everyone.

But a movie isn't going to change my life so I don't let them rule my life. I respect all film makers for their visions. I am only 20 so a lot of originals are old to me, and I may or may not have seen them.
