I never really could get into them. My friend is a big fan, but I'm just not as much into the proggier side of metal. I do dig some of their stuff though. As far as prog goes I like my Fates Warning and Queensryche. Or old prog rock bands like Yes and Uriah Heep.

There's still good metal coming out now, how could it have predated any of us?

I'm not a freak but I do have viking ancesters running thru my blood.... sometime I widh they were running thru my head yea

My favorite metal band is Black Sabbath (The original lineup with Ozzy).

I listen to a lot of Anvil, White Zombie, Rob Zombie, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Pantera, Early Scorpions...

Also a little Megadeath, Metallica, GWAR, and Slipknot here and there.

I'd say TOOL is my favorite Metal band, but I just don't consider them metal like some people do. I dunno. I just think they rock.

I'm not normally into bands fronted by women, but their are a few decent ones. Quebec's own Cauchemar are pretty amazing and Australia's Rituals of the Oak are damn good too.

His name is Lemmy, he's in Motorhead, and they play rock and roll. He doesn't, and never has considered Motorhead a metal band, and neither do I.

Metal is all I listen to, aside from one band (Paramore... I know, I know... shut up)

As a kid in the 70's, it was all about hard rock like, KISS, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Rush, and metal pioneers Black Sabbath.

Come the early 80's, and that's when NWOBHM came about and I started getting mad into Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept and Scorpions.

Then then early mid 80's (83-84) it became all about Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Anthrax. I flirted with a brief prog-snob period (Yes, Marillion, ELP), but still loved the heavy stuff.

I started a band in '85 and focused on metal covers initially, and moved to originals.

Late mid to late 80s is when the "shred" scene really blew up, and I became an Yngwie nut. Everything was about "how fast can I shred?!" That didn't last long, cause honestly, shredding, while awesome, gets boring after a while, and also, I just wasn't that good. I had to work too hard to maintain, so I just became a riffer (ala Hetfield).

Then I found Annihilator. Jeff Waters is a legend, period. Incredible player and super cool dude. He opened my eyes to more complex rhythms and tasty/fast leads.

The 90's brought us the mighty, infamous, and irreplaceable Pantera. Dime was one of a kind, and an idol to me. Needless to say, many, many tears were shed in 2004. I met him twice, with a 3 year gap inbetween and I'll be damned if he didn't legitimately remember me. Honored.

A LOT of people I know just poopoo new (not nu) Metal, but man, if it's good and it's metal, I'll love it.

Lately it's all about tech stuff like Between The Buried and Me, Protest The Hero (coolest dudes around), Animals As Leaders, Meshuggah, Veil of Maya, Periphery, The Faceless. I don't care if it's got a "title" or not. Call it Djent, or not. Hate that term, but it is what it is, and if it's awesome, then it's awesome.

I also love a lot of "metalcore" (again with the titles). Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying are two of my favorite bands at the moment.

What can I say. I grew up on hard rock, moved to metal and never looked back.
