Topic: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Anyone know of some othe weird messed up horror movies like these?

Playroom
From Beyond

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Playroom was  1990 I think. If we're talking films from the 80's, Phantasm  2 would fit in nicely.  The 80's were stuffed with great horror flicks, as for weird there are a lot.

The Beyond

House by the Cemetery

Night of the Werewolf   -Naschy!

Panic Beats

Hellraiser

Evil Dead Trap

Spider Labyrinth

The Dead Pit

Tetsuo: The Iron Man

Weird and messed up?  Let's see...

Street Trash
Lifeforce
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Paperhouse
Society
Phantasm II
Videodrome
Basket Case
Black Roses
Waxwork
The Horror Show (aka House III)

Off the top of my head.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Well Playroom its supposed to be 1989 but it somehow got held back and then released in 1990. So technically its still a late 1980s weird horror flick.

I've seen a few clips of From Beyond at youtube and holy crap that movie looks a bit messed up lol.

Phantasm II i've seen a few times 15 years ago and its a great movie but not that weird or anything.

The  Beyond?    How weird is it? Is it weird and messed up like Stuart Gordon's From Beyond or what?

also Video Dead is weird but ive seen that a dozen times back when USA Network was actually good in the 1980s

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

The Deadly Spawn (1983)
The Toxic Avenger (1984)
Class of Nuke them High
Videodrome (1983)
Saturday the 14th (1981)-
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
The Terror Within (1989)
The Gate (1987)-

Never watched it but the trailer for Brain Damage(1988) looks promising.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Since you liked From Beyond, maybe try some other Stuart Gordon movies out:

Re-Animator
Castle Freak
Pit and the Pendulum

The Brain (1988) (IMDB link)

Lon reminded me of the title for this film.  (Hey, gotta give props where props are due.)

I think I have that one on VHS Azz,  I will have to dig it out.  smile

How about Xtro?  It's pretty cheesy.

I watched that not long ago. It is a weird film I would say.

Another Frank Henenlotter film that has not been mentioned is Brain Damage.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

@DG- Xtro 2 is a ripoff of Alien, but it's got some weird stuff going on.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Basketcase
Videodrome
The Beyond

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

In The Mouth of Madness might be worth checking out too, though it's from the 90's.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Anyone see Dark Waters? Not the Japanese or american remake Dark Water... but Dark WaterS. It's an Italian (I think) horror flick about a convent of evil nuns. It's quite the trippy movie, especially at the end. Great WTF moments to be had.

It feels like a much older movie.  It was filmed in the 90s but feels more like a 70s movie.  It kind of has a lovecraftian feel to it.

By Mariano Baino, yeah.  I saw it back in the day, but just once.  I have it on my expansion drive right now but haven't gotten around to rewatching it yet.

Oh crap that's right. I forgot it was a 90's movie.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Check out The Borrower.  Its copyright date is 1989, but it was not released until 1991.

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

@Alien- Checked out the Entity.  You were correct, I enjoyed it.  big_smile

Oh Damn, sry about that smile

Re: From Beyond and other weird old 1980s horror movies

Altered States (1980) is another odd one.

Isolation tanks, psychedelic mushrooms, Ayahuasca, genetic memory, evolution...
