The thing from another planet.

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

I never hear much about the Wizard of Gore or The Art of the Devil series

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

You never hear anything about any of Herschell Gordan Lewis's films from your average movie goer which is a shame because he's such a pioneer in the horror genre. His films like Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs, The Gore Gore Girls, A Taste of Blood ect.. forever changed the genre and influenced many modern horror directors and film directors alike.

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

Gore Gore Girls RULES!!!

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

Heh.  A couple flicks mentioned are on my next "more attention" list.

Good call on Coffin Joe, DG. I love those movies. Nobody really talks much about the silent films other than a few specific ones like Nosferatu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, but so many more deserve some attention, like these:

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920)
Phantom of the Opera (1925) (this one does get some props)
The Hunchback of Notredame (1923)
The Penalty (1920)
The Man Who Laughs (1928)

I was thinking of getting Arrow Video's upcoming release of Spider Baby myself.

Alone In The Dark (1981) is a good slasher no one mentions a lot, it seems to me.

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

Blood And Roses (1960)
Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1971)
Messiah Of Evil (1973)
The Boy Who Cried Werewolf (1973)
Devil Times Five (1974)

many others that escape me for the moment but will add when they come to me. there are loads of them!

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

Bedlam (1946) starring Boris Karloff.
House of Wax - Vincent Price  (1953
Rosemary's Baby (1968)

And a really scary, spooky one -  Race with the Devil (1975)

But LOADS More.

The Creature From the Black Lagoon is a great one.  I know, I know...it's black and white.  Trust me when I tell you that you don't get costume creation and sheer creepiness in films like that today.

Re: Horror movie that noone ever mentions anymore these days

^I think the Creature from the Black Lagoon, get it's just deserts, maybe not as much as some of the other Universal monster movies though. Great flick anyway.

Rosemary's Baby is a classic, it's even a William Castle production (something people sometimes forget) and he even has a cameo in it.

House of Wax is also a great flick, but by my estimation the original Mystery of the Wax Museum is even better.

Bedlam is also an interesting and somewhat disturbing little movie. Val Lewton produced some of the greatest horror films of all time, and this is often overlooked. I love the touch of noir he adds to his films.

you guys gotta talk to me more, I talk about most those all the time!
