Topic: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

My 12-year-old daughter Kevyn has taken an interest in horror films over the last several months.  Last night, during our usual new-episode-of-The-Walking Dead discussion, she disclosed that she's been watching various Friday the 13th movies on AMC, this being their annual Halloween horror fest and all.  But...

I'm sorry.  This is difficult to talk about.  Please, bear with me.  I need to get through it.

So last night she tells me she's chosen a favorite.  Our tastes are so much alike in everything else that I assume she's going to say part 3, 4 or 6, which are my own personal favorites.  Then she tells me.  Her favorite is...

...JASON TAKES MANHATTAN.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, her second favorite?  A toss-up between Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X.

My heart is heavy.  My spirit, broken.  I need you, my HM friends, now more than ever, to help me through this incredibly difficult time.  I know it sounds like I'm over-reacting, but I am just a man.  If you prick me, do I not bleed?  If I mourn, do I not cry?  If I am sad, do I not need comfort and support?  And more importantly, if I shake it more than once, am I not playing with it?

These are dark times.  I don't know how I'm going to get through this.  But I can't just give up on her.  Damn it, I love her too much!

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

I'm so sorry to hear this Lon.  It may just be a phase.  Hopefully she is just rebelling and will come to her senses.  All you can do is lead by example, and try to show her the right path.  If things don't change I would say there is no choice but total disownment.  This is sick and wrong.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

My condolences buddy.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

i have just re watched the first eight "Friday the 13th" films in the boxset recently funnily enough. not watching the final three again although i don't mind "Freddy vs Jason" but "Jason X" and especially "Jason Goes To Hell" are Shite! ( don't have those three in anycase) of the others here is my order of preference and i quite like part 8 Lon, it's not good but it's ok and fun. my run of the order is  1. Part 2, 2.Part 1, 3.part 4, 4. Part 6, 5.Part 5, 6. Part 8, 7. Part 3 and 8. Part 7. on recent watch part 7 and 3 have changed places i found i liked part 3 better than part 7 although both are average.as for the remake stick it up your bum hole! that's all bye!

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

That is quite rough indeed, it could be worse H2 by Zombie could be her favourite halloween! I am sorry though Lon it is okay to cry

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

Cry a river if you must. But look on the bright side: she's into horror, she's opinionated (sounds like she's taking after her daddy smile , most likely as she matures she will come to her senses, your not having conversations about Miley Cyrus, or My Little Pony.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

Simple enough. ACCEPT her tastes. Period.
And yes, be glad she's into Horror, she could be into Porn, crappy Reality Shows or even worst, Dallas. lol

But remember that this comes from a guy that thinks The Exorcist is the most crappy movie ever made. So yeah, accept or suffer. big_smile

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

I LOVED Jason X lmao. No seriously, when that dvd first came out anyone who stopped by to visit was made to watch it and they all walked away laughing. It's intentionally campy cheese horror, was never meant to be an OMG fear Jason sort of deal like the first few ones. Cmon tell me you didn't get a giggle at the scene where they inserted the scantily clad camper girls.

The other two movies I could certainly do without. But ya, Jason X was mighty priceless as long as one took it just for what it was supposed to be: silly and intentionally cheesy horror mocking itself.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

Other than "I disagree," not much. lol

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

I"ll trade ya your kid who likes to watch horror for this kid i'm babysittin who likes watching My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears lmao. Thankfully at 4.5 yrs he is already a PRO at workin through the playstation and Netflix menus to find and play what he wants without me having to see a second of it hahaha.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

I feel for you.  When my 4-year-old niece is here, I spend hours a day watching Sponge Bob.

I HATE Sponge Bob.  With a passion.  I think it's the most painfully annoying kid's show there is.  Yet when she's hear I have to put up with hours of it.

HOURS.

If she wasn't family, I'd flush her down the can.

Remind me not to hire you when I'm looking for a new babysitter!  big_smile  Ohhh...I'm just kidding...I'm sure you do a fine job.  Well, I hope you do a fine job.  smile

Lon - Try the Lalaloopsy movie 300 times.  There's only the one movie, so its that...same movie.  Over and over.

Though she gets in to other things too.  Recently she got into Felix the Cat, which I had no idea was so funny.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

I've always loved "Jason Goes To Hell". I think it's a lot better then it get credit for. Even though you don't see Jason a whole lot, it's one of my favorite looking Jasons.

I always love the line from Kane Hodder. "He wasn't nothing but a bigg-o pussy anyway". LOL

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

Tastes mature! It's cool she's into horror in the first place.

Starting off liking the bad ones will blow her mind when she gets to the good stuff.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

Hahaha yeah.
But she might still stick with the bad ones just to make daddy freak out. Expecially since she's in her Teenage lemme alone years. lol

But she'll find her stuff along the years. Although your first ones leave quite an unforgetable print in your memory. Sorry about that LoudLon. lol

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

Don't worry, she will grown out then, I grew out Jason X

But i still enjoyed Jason goes to hell better then 7,8 and 10 for me.

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevyn

I liked Jason x. when mine were younger they were into powerpuff girls, thankfully, cause I laughed my ass off at that cartoon. if the biggest concern you ever have with your daughter is what movies she likes, horror or otherwise, count your blessings and don't complain. you could be stuck living through her beiber fever or something.
