Topic: greatest guitar solos

i was thinking about really good guitar solos earlier while listening to Metallica, and i was wondering, what solos do you think are the best?
my presonal favorite is the long 4 minuit one at the end of Free Bird by lynyrd Skynyrd. so how bout all of you?

Re: greatest guitar solos

My favorite guitar solo is My Sharona by The Knack.

Re: greatest guitar solos

Ace Frehley(Kiss) - Shock Me
Jimmy Page - Stairway to Heaven
Jimi Hendrix - any of his stuff

To start off with lol.

Re: greatest guitar solos

I'm partial to just about any Matt Belamy / Muse guitar solo.  But I think my all time favorite is Adrian Belew on The Downward Spiral's Ruiner.

Re: greatest guitar solos

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (P.U.L.S.E. version)
Megadeth - Tornado of Souls
Half of the Death's discography

Re: greatest guitar solos

anything Joe Satriani plays Surfing With The Alien!!!!!

Re: greatest guitar solos

Joe Satriani is an amazing guitarist!!!

Re: greatest guitar solos

come on folks.  greatest of all time - Randy Rhodes - Crazy Train

the finger taps!  THE FINGER TAPS!!

Re: greatest guitar solos

Nice choice!

thank you

Re: greatest guitar solos

AT first I thought no one mentioned Free Bird, but then I look back and realize I missed Deathagtes origional post....

Another great song is YYZ by Rush.  Such a great & underrated band

As far as modern bands, I havent heard any guitar work quite as awesome in recent years as "Fury of the Storm" or "Through Fire and Flames" by DragonForce.

Re: greatest guitar solos

Stranglehold, Ted Nugent
George Lynch, Mr. Scary -- one solo after another, great rock instrumental
Ozzy, No More Tears
Motley Crue, Home Sweet Home
Metallica, Blackened

Man...so many I'm having a hard time thinking of them.  I'll have to get back to this.

And tho I agree with the Winger solo, I'd have to trade out Loverboy for Was Not Was's Everybody do the Dinosaur.

For horror fans, you are a bunch of weenies.

Hey girl, I got a song for you:

"Life is a highway and I wanna ride RIP all night long"

Re: greatest guitar solos

tongue

I don't ride boys who wore neon socks in the 80s

Re: greatest guitar solos

And that, dear Rip, is what they call a BURN!

That'll teach you to misquote me.:)

But Constantce is right...I am a weenie, because I actually do like most of the songs you mentioned.  What can I say, I grew up in the 80s.  That's what we listened to back then.

Plus you had a mullet!!!

Re: greatest guitar solos

Didn't everybody back then?

Speaking of which, I downloaded "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" off of Limewire a couple weeks ago; it's this thing some guy videotaped before a Judas Priest concert, folks hanging out getting drunk and stuff.  You've never seen more mullets in your life, man, it was hilarious!  And I sat there thinking, "Holy shit...is THAT what we used to look like???"
lol

Oh, and so I don't take this thread off topic, here's a stupid thing about me:  my eyeball squeaks when I rub it.  It ain't much, but it's all I can think of at the moment.

Re: greatest guitar solos

Lon, (laughing) the eye comment is pretty funny, but the "surprise us" topic is next door.  This is the guitar solo room.  lol

Re: greatest guitar solos

The solo in Hit the Lights by Metallica is pretty cool

Re: greatest guitar solos

The Eagles- Hotel California, the solo at the end of the song, pretty sweet

Re: greatest guitar solos

The full length albums:

Every album by Pink Floyd but i gotta go with 3 of them:

The Wall
